Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman are throwing romance into the spotlight for Prime Video’s The Love Hypothesis, and the first look arrived with the trailer’s debut on Saturday, June 27.

Reinhart stars as Olive, a brilliant Ph.D. candidate laser-focused on her future in academia. Her world tilts when she realizes her best friend Ahn has fallen for Olive’s crush, Jeremy. Stung and determined. Olive makes an impulsive move—she kisses intimidating professor Adam Carlsen (Bateman) to prove she’s moved on.

That single act sparks a fake relationship with rules, boundaries, and a mutually beneficial agreement. But as the arrangement starts to blur the line between performance and reality, Olive finds herself facing a harder test than any dissertation: the idea that love might actually be worth the risk.

The Love Hypothesis is based on the New York Times best-selling novel of the same name by Ali Hazelwood, and Prime Video will debut the movie later this year.

In addition to Reinhart and Bateman, the cast includes Rachel Marsh as Ahn, Nicholas Duvernay as Jeremy, Jaboukie Young-White, and Arty Froushan.

Prime Video has set the premiere date for September 23, when Olive’s “hypothesis” finally meets its moment on screen—after the trailer shows just how quickly friendship can turn into something far more complicated.

  1. So she kisses a professor to prove she’s over someone? Seems messy and unrealistic lol. I’m gonna watch though.

  2. I saw this trailer and I’m pretty sure it’s basically Twilight but in academia. Like why is the love “hypothesis” thing a whole plot, it’s not science, it’s just feelings.

  3. September 23?? that’s like foreverrr. Also they said it’s a fake relationship with rules but those never work, everyone knows that. Lili Reinhart looks good though, and Tom Bateman being intimidating professor… cmon that’s every romcom cheat code.
