By the time Lili Reinhart’s character is set to spark hearts in The Love Hypothesis, Prime Video already wants more than one stop on its Ali Hazelwood ride.
Three months before the feature’s premiere on Prime Video, the Amazon-owned streamer is doubling down on the New York Times bestselling author. A follow-up novel—Love, Theoretically—is now getting the feature treatment as well.
The Love Hypothesis itself is based on Ali Hazelwood’s novel, which follows a Ph.D. student whose faux relationship with an intimidating professor gradually turns into something much more real. Prime Video has been leaning hard into swoon-worthy romance content. building a slate that includes Off Campus and Every Year After. and even hosting its own in-person Obsessed Fest for the creatives. cast. books. and fandoms behind these projects.
Love, Theoretically is set to join that momentum. Colleen Hoover—author of It Ends With Us—will produce alongside Lauren Levine through her Heartbones Entertainment partner. along with Magic Hour Entertainment duo Max Siemers and Tanner Anderson. Sofia Alvarez will also be part of the team: she’ll take the reins of the adaptation after spearheading Netflix’s take on Sarah Dessen’s novel. Along for the Ride. Both Alvarez and Hazelwood are executive producing.
The sequence matters here. Prime Video is committing to Hazelwood not just with a feature adaptation of The Love Hypothesis, but with a second film project built around her follow-up novel Love, Theoretically—at a time when the first movie still has to arrive.
For The Love Hypothesis, the release date is September 23, 2026. The film is directed by Claire Scanlon and written by Sarah Rothschild. Elizabeth Cantillon is listed as a producer.

I saw Lili Reinhart and thought it was gonna be the exact same plot but like faster. Also September 2026 is so far away it’s basically a lifetime lol.
Wait is Love, Theoretically the one where the girl’s a professor? Or is that the first one? I don’t even read these I just watch the previews and then everyone on TikTok tells me what it is.
Prime Video loves romance but they’re probably gonna change the ending. Also Colleen Hoover producing like… okay but isn’t her stuff already like, super depressing? I’m just saying the vibe might not match the book.
