OMAHA, Neb. — Texas is facing a night where one win keeps the season moving and one loss ends it. For that reality, the Longhorns are handing the ball to Luke Harrison.
Texas announced that Harrison will start on the mound against Georgia in Tuesday’s elimination game at the College World Series. Georgia will counter with Dylan Vigue.
Vigue, a junior right-hander, spent his first two years of college at Michigan. At this stage of the tournament, he is 4-1 with a 4.73 ERA in 2026.
Texas’s decision is clear, but the pitching plan may not be. Despite tabbing Harrison as its starter, Texas is expected to use a most-hands-on-deck strategy during tonight’s game. With heavy workloads during UT’s first two games at the College World Series. Dylan Volantis and Ruger Riojas aren’t expected options against the Bulldogs. Brody Walls is the only other Longhorn who has thrown more than 20 pitches in Omaha.
The bullpen picture isn’t just about who can go—it’s about who can’t. All-American closer Sam Cozart hasn’t pitched since June 7. Thomas Burns and Haiden Leffew, both used frequently, have yet to make an appearance at the 2026 College World Series.
Georgia’s side, by contrast, comes with more pitchers who appear ready to work. Joey Volchko, who threw a complete game against Texas this past Saturday, is one of the options. Caden Aoki pitched eight innings against Oklahoma on Monday. and those two are the only pitchers Georgia has used at the College World Series.
The stakes sharpen the moment the outcome lands. If Texas (46-14) beats Georgia (52-13), the Longhorns will advance in the College World Series bracket. After that, they would need two wins over Oklahoma (40-22) to reach the NCAA’s championship series.
