Police say the teenager engaged in an altercation on the escalator before fatally stabbing a 29-year-old man.
A 17-year-old from Texas is suspected of murdering the man who was fatally stabbed in South Station during the evening rush hour last Wednesday, MBTA Transit Police announced Tuesday.
A warrant was issued out of Boston Municipal Court on Tuesday for Marico Levy, a resident of Aubrey, Texas. Levy is charged with murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, court records show.
Boston police described Levy as 5-foot-7 and 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 12, when officers received reports of a stabbing in South Station, located at 675 Atlantic Ave.
Police found Latavius Owens, 29, of Memphis, Tennessee, suffering from an apparent stab wound. Owens was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Owens and Levy “engaged in an altercation” on an escalator leading to an exit at the station, police said.
Transit Police released surveillance footage images of Levy inside South Station.
Anyone with information on Levy’s whereabouts is urged to contact Transit Police at 617-222-1050 or the BPD Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470.
