Toronto Tempo walked into Coca-Cola Coliseum on Thursday looking to reset after a difficult Monday loss to the Atlanta Dream—and they did it in the most dramatic way possible.

They crushed the Los Angeles Sparks 125-97 in a rout that felt decided early, improving to 9-9 as Toronto’s offense poured it on. The Sparks, meanwhile, dropped their third defeat in four outings and fell to 8-9.

Marina Mabrey was the night’s defining force. She scored 53 points to tie the single-game scoring record of A’ja Wilson and Liz Cambage. Her performance also fed into a bigger milestone: the Tempo set the league record for most points in a regulation game.

Toronto’s total broke the previous mark of 120 points set by the Phoenix Mercury against the Indiana Fever in 2009. Against Los Angeles, the record wasn’t just reached—it was owned. The Tempo shot 51% from the field, including 20-of-42 from three-point range. They outrebounded the Sparks 52-30. and once Toronto built momentum. it never loosened its grip. leading by as much as 35 points.

Mabrey backed up the headline stat with efficient finishing: she went 17-of-28 from the floor, including 9-of-18 from long distance. She also added six rebounds and two assists. Even with one player taking over the way she did, Toronto didn’t depend on her alone.

Julie Allemand supplied steady production with 13 points, six rebounds, 14 assists, and three steals. Maria Conde added 13 points and seven rebounds. Laura Juskaite chipped in 10 points and 12 rebounds off the bench.

The Tempo’s start carried the weight of the night. They scored 34 points in the first quarter and. once they had control. they never allowed the Sparks to taste the lead. Toronto’s previous scoring high was 111 points against the Chicago Sky in May—an internal benchmark that this game surpassed easily.

There was also a notable absence: the Tempo were still without Brittney Sykes due to a foot injury. Despite that, the team kept rolling.

Los Angeles fought back in the only way it could—through two scorers who stayed productive even as the game tilted away. Nneka Ogwumike and Dearica Hamby each scored 24 points to lead the Sparks.

Toronto will return to action on Saturday against the Mercury, coming off a performance that didn’t just deliver a win—it rewrote the kind of output the league expects from a regulation game.
