Mutant Mayhem arrived in a moment when superhero stories feel built for repeat viewing: easy to jump into on a lazy afternoon. and less dependent on a one-time twist than thrillers or mysteries. In this case. the movie earned its place with a fresh visual style and a voice that feels unmistakably of its moment. Director Jeff Rowe infused the franchise with Gen Z energy. and the animation was described as breathtaking in the style associated with Spider-Verse.

The sequel planning is already underway. too — and it’s another reason the timing of this free landing feels so perfect. A sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem was announced in July 2023. a full month before the first film even hit theaters. The second movie was originally slated for September 17, 2027, but it was later moved forward to August 13, 2027. Rowe is returning to direct, and the original young voice cast is also coming back.

What’s next also looks bigger on the villain front. The post-credits scene of the first film teased Shredder hunting down the turtles, and Shredder is confirmed as the main antagonist for the sequel. Producer Seth Rogen announced at CinemaCon that the alien warlord Krang will be joining as well.

  2. Wait I thought Shredder was the one that was like, a robot? So now he’s gonna hunt the turtles and also Krang is in it?? This is all confusing, but I guess I’ll watch.

  3. I’m lowkey mad it came out in 2023 and now it’s on Pluto like 2026/whatever, but also I guess that’s how streaming works. If Krang is joining, that means they’re basically doing the whole cartoon plot again, right? Also #9 on some chart means it’s probably popular everywhere, not just Pluto, so that checks out.
