NEW YORK — Madison Square Garden is about to shift from arena lights to wedding lights.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are expected to have their wedding at the Manhattan venue on Friday night, according to a law enforcement official briefed on security plans.
The official said festivities will begin earlier with a smaller rehearsal dinner planned for Thursday night. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the events.
The timing comes after weeks of unconfirmed reports that the nuptials would be held over the July Fourth weekend at one of New York’s iconic landmarks, a run of speculation that has intensified in recent days.
On Wednesday, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said a permit had been filed for a “large event” at Madison Square Garden. “We are fully prepared,” he added, while saying there was nothing further to share.
New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch also confirmed that police would respond with a plan, saying police “will of course have a detail in place,” but declined to provide additional details.
Outside the arena this week, crews have been unloading equipment from trucks. At one entrance, a large carpet was briefly unveiled and then removed.
For all of the visible preparation and public comments from city and police officials. nothing has been officially confirmed by the couple. Multiple requests for comment have been made to Swift’s representative. including on Wednesday. and the Associated Press reports that no public confirmation has followed.
Still, with a permit on record, security preparations underway, and a Friday night wedding now the expectation, the gap between public process and private confirmation is starting to feel as loud as the arena itself.
