TELLER COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – UPDATE, 9:55 a.m.: According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the vehicle and suspect have been located and the suspect is in custody.
The shelter-in-place has been lifted.
PAST COVERAGE: Special agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are providing support to the Teller County Sheriff’s Office after two troopers were shot near Woodland Park.
According to the sheriff’s office, a shelter-in-place order was issued for the Westwood Lakes Subdivision due to law enforcement activity. TCSO said the shelter-in-place order is now taking place in Woodland West as well.
The sheriff’s office tells residents to secure their homes and businesses and stay away from doors and windows. Shelter in a safe space until further notice.
Colorado Springs police have confirmed that officers are responding to a shooting in the area. They have been given information on the suspect.
Two troopers were conducting a traffic stop on Highway 24 west of Woodland Park where they were shot, according to Colorado State Patrol.
The troopers were self-transported to the hospital and are being treated, TCSO said. Colorado State Patrol said one is being treated for serious wounds and another has minor wounds.
TCSO said a man shot at troopers’ vehicles. He is described as white and tall, with brown shoulder-length hair wearing blue jeans and a terracotta colored shirt driving a blue Subaru Impreza hatchback with license plates not visible through tinted covers.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation said the suspect is “armed and dangerous.” A photo of the Subaru is seen below.
TCSO shared an additional photo of the vehicle and the possible suspect on social media.
TCSO said the suspect drove away to the area of Westwood Lakes and Woodland West and may now be on foot, where the shelter-in-place order was made.
