An exclusive deleted scene from “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” showcases an aerial Tom Cruise stunt that didn’t make the final cut.
Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s daughter has stopped using her dad’s last name.
The 20-year-old college student, born Suri Cruise, now uses her mother’s middle name as her surname, legally going by Suri Noelle, according to Pennsylvania voter records reviewed by USA TODAY. Page Six, the gossip column for the New York Post, first reported the news.
USA TODAY reached out to representatives for Holmes, 47, and Cruise, 64, for comment.
Reports of Noelle dropping her father’s last name in public, including in her high school graduation, date back to 2024, though it is unclear when she legally changed her name.
One of the most famous couples in the late aughts, Holmes and Cruise were married from November 2006 to 2012. Noelle was born on April 18, 2006, exactly a year after her parents’ first date.
Her early years were the subject of tabloid attention, and Noelle made her public debut months after her birth in a 22-page Vanity Fair spread featuring family photos captured by Annie Leibovitz.
“When we came to the name Suri, we both loved it. And we both said, ‘Suri Cruise,” Cruise said in the October 2006 Vanity Fair issue. “We later found out that it meant ‘red rose,’ and that was just a bonus. Suri—it was perfect.”

When Cruise and Holmes went their separate ways in 2012, they said they were “committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests,” adding, “We want to keep matters affecting our family private.” They have since publicly spoken about their daughter only on rare occasions.
“What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her,” Holmes told Glamour magazine in 2023. “I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person.”
In an August 2024 interview with Town & Country, the “Dawson’s Creek” star expressed her pride for her daughter as Noelle headed to college.
“Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy,” she said. “I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that.”
Months after the interview was published, Holmes took to social media to denounce a Daily Mail report about her daughter having access to a sizeable trust fund. She called the report “completely false” and said it was “dangerous” to put “a target on my child’s back.”
