stock market – U.S. stock and bond markets will be closed on Friday, June 19, 2026, for Juneteenth. Trading resumes on Monday, June 22, as Wall Street prepares for a normal run-up to the next closure on July 3 for Independence Day.

For anyone planning trades or checking a portfolio on Juneteenth, the message is simple: Friday, June 19, 2026 isn’t a day to expect action on Wall Street.

The Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange will be closed on Friday, June 19, 2026, and reopen Monday, June 22. The U.S. bond market will also be closed on June 19, according to the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.

Juneteenth—often called America’s Second Independence Day—has been a federally recognized holiday since 2021, which means millions of Americans get a paid day off to commemorate the end of slavery.

The holiday marks the moment when Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston Bay. Texas. in 1865 with 2. 000 Union troops to proclaim that more than 250. 000 enslaved Black people in the state were free. That announcement came two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863.

In the run of days after the closure, Wall Street will be business as usual until early July. The next scheduled stock market closure is Friday, July 3, 2026, in observance of Independence Day.

The schedule for 2026 also lists closures for Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 7; Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 26; and Christmas on Friday, Dec. 25.
