Highland MSP says public wrote off Stephen Flynn in days

A Tory MSP for the Highlands and Islands insists Scotland’s new transport secretary has already been written off by the public – after two days in the job. Stephen Flynn, appointed to First Minister John Swinney’s new eight-strong cabinet on Wednesday (May 20), left the House of Commons after his recent election victory in the Scottish Parliament’s Aberdeen Deeside and North Kincardine seat. Scottish Conservative list MSP Tim Eagle, a vociferous critic of the SNP’s record on roads, urged Mr Flynn to make dualling of

the A9 and A96 a top priority for the Scottish Government. But the Highland member made it clear he held no confidence in the new appointee. Mr Eagle said: “Stephen Flynn is the ninth SNP transport secretary to take up the role of this poisoned chalice since the A9 and A96 dualling were first promised in 2011. “The public have already lost faith in Stephen Flynn being any different to the failed SNP transport secretaries that have come before him, with every single one abandoning

our rural infrastructure. “For the last 15 years, roads across the North and North East of Scotland has been left to rot by the SNP, with only 11 further miles dualled on the A9 and absolutely nothing to show on the A96. “As someone who lives in the north-east, Stephen Flynn must make the A9 and A96 a top priority by ending the perpetual talking shops and finally getting spades into the ground to dual these roads in full.” Do you want to respond to

  1. So they’re “written off” in days because of roads? Like yeah the A9 and A96 are bad but cmon, give the guy a chance. Also the SNP always gets blamed for everything.

  2. Bro 9th transport secretary since 2011?? that’s wild, like at that point it’s the plan that’s cursed not the person. I don’t even know what Stephen Flynn is supposed to do, spades into the ground already sounds like politicians talking tho. If they promised dualling for years, why is it still not done?

  3. I heard Flynn was written off because he left the Commons already? Like he just started and the conservatives are mad? Maybe the dualling is stuck because of Scotland being broke or something, idk. Roads get delayed and suddenly everyone picks a villain.
