A podcast host who wants to turn a loyal audience into recurring income won’t have to send fans to another site for much longer. Spotify is preparing to add “Memberships,” letting eligible creators offer paid, recurring access directly through the app.

In a news release. Spotify says Memberships are designed to give creators a way to build revenue from their most engaged fans. Listeners who opt in will be able to pay for deeper access to a creator or show. unlocking “new and exclusive experiences” in return. Spotify hasn’t laid out every detail yet. including how the offer will compare to Patreon or OnlyFans in day-to-day operation. but the structure is clearly built around gated. member-only perks.

The rollout appears to target podcast creators first. A short demo video shows a creator dashboard for Memberships, signaling what Spotify wants creators to handle in-house. According to the release. creators will have direct access to subscribers. be able to view subscriber status and total paid. and export member data as a CSV file.

For creators already running paid subscriptions elsewhere, Spotify says they may not need to start over. Paid subscriptions can continue to be distributed through Spotify Open Access. which lets paid content from outside subscription platforms be made available on Spotify. Memberships are positioned as an additional option—especially for podcasts of all sizes—to offer more access to fans and strengthen revenue without necessarily abandoning existing setups.

Spotify says Memberships will launch for select creators “soon,” with more information still coming. The company hasn’t confirmed whether creators will be able to offer tiers or flexible payment amounts. but for many creators. the direction is unmistakable: more ways to monetize direct relationships. without pulling fans off Spotify.

  1. So is this basically Patreon but Spotify version? I’m just trying to figure out if I’ll still be able to listen free or they’ll start paywalling everything.

  2. Honestly Spotify always copying somebody. First they did podcasts and now memberships, like what’s next… making you pay to skip ads? I don’t get how they compare to OnlyFans like the article keeps hinting.

  3. Wait so podcasters can charge you INSIDE the app? But didn’t they already have open access or whatever… sounds like it could just route people to another platform anyway. Also CSV export?? Like why do I care if creators can export data, it’s giving shady vibes to me.

  4. I saw “eligible creators” and “select A podcast host” and I’m like… so not everybody? Kinda dumb. If they’re doing monthly memberships then people will just make the content worse to force payments. I guess Patreon already does this but Spotify seems sneakier since it’s where I already listen.
