Rumble through the early morning air was the first reminder that Memorial Day isn’t only about remembrance—it’s also about momentum from Florida’s Space Coast.

A SpaceX rocket roared into the sky on Monday morning. lifting off on time at 7:48 a.m. May 25. from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The launch kicked off the day’s operations for the region with the mission known as Starlink 10-47. a Falcon 9 flight carrying the latest batch of Starlink internet satellites to orbit.

As the rocket climbed, it followed a northeast trajectory across the clearing morning sky. Showers had moved through the area overnight, but they cleared in time for liftoff—one detail that mattered to people watching from near the launch area. For Florida, the launch was also the 35th of the year.

There were no Brevard County sonic booms reported during the flight. The Falcon 9’s first stage booster later touched down on the A Shortfall of Gravitas drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean, capping the mission with the kind of precision landing SpaceX has built into its routine.

With Memorial Day underway and the next launch already on the calendar, early risers won’t have to wait long. The next liftoff from Florida is set for no earlier than 7:52 a.m. Friday, May 29, again from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

That May 29 window extends until 11:52 a.m. Residents are expected to see another SpaceX Falcon 9 launch on another Starlink mission, weather and range conditions permitting.

For Florida, rocket traffic is still building fast this year—one launch follows another closely enough that people on the Space Coast can go from watching liftoff to refreshing the schedule within days.

  1. I thought Memorial Day was supposed to be quiet, but there’s a Starlink launch instead. No sonic booms reported though?? lucky I guess

  2. Wait did they land the booster on a ship named “A Shortfall of Gravitas” like… for real lol. Also 35th of the year in Florida?? that’s wild, I can’t keep up. Is Starlink the same thing as GPS or is it like WiFi in space? (I’m confused)

  3. They say no Brevard County sonic booms, but I swear my cousin in Titusville heard something last time. Then again the article says showers cleared, so maybe it was just thunder? Either way, launching on Memorial Day feels weird to me, like why not wait, unless they’re trying to “beat” the weather. Next launch Friday… so basically we’re doing space stuff every few days now.
