Sonos Era 100 drops to $179 during Prime Day

Prime Day brings the Sonos Era 100 down from $219 to $179, a rare $40 cut on a privacy-focused smart speaker that’s known for its on-device voice processing and punchy sound.
The Sonos Era 100 isn’t the kind of smart speaker you buy to “try something out.” It’s the one you place on a counter, hit play, and then—quietly—stop thinking about the gear and start thinking about the music.
During Amazon Prime Day, it’s 18% off, dropping from $219 to $179. It’s a simple move that feels bigger than the number, especially if you’ve been watching Sonos but haven’t wanted to pay full price.
I keep my Era 100 on my kitchen counter. and it’s become a daily companion—music in the background. or amplifying the audio of a YouTube video on my phone via AirPlay while I cook dinner. The appeal isn’t just sound. The speaker’s privacy-focused design is a big part of why I recommend it to people I know.
The Era 100 includes an integrated microphone for voice assistants. and you can set up either Amazon Alexa or Sonos Voice Control. I prefer Sonos Voice Control because it aligns with Sonos’s stringent privacy policy: all commands are processed on-device. and Sonos vows your requests and voice aren’t transcribed. recorded. or sent to a cloud server. There’s also a physical switch on the back of the Era 100, giving you an extra layer of control.
If you use Amazon Alexa instead of Sonos Voice Control, you forgo Sonos’s privacy policy. And even within Sonos Voice Control, the capability is limited—by design—so it can handle basic commands like track skip, play, pause, speaker grouping, or queueing a specific song or Sonos playlist.
There’s one feature that hits home for me, though: Sonos Voice Control can set timers. It’s one of my favorite ways to stay on track while cooking dinner with music playing.
Sound-wise, the Era 100 is Sonos’s smallest powered Wi‑Fi speaker, so its sound has to work within a small frame. Even so, it delivers clear vocals and punchy bass thanks to three Class‑D amplifiers, two tweeters, and one midwoofer.
There’s a limitation to know before you buy. Because of its size, the Era 100 doesn’t support spatial audio. To get Dolby Atmos spatial audio, you’ll need two Era 100 speakers paired with a compatible Sonos soundbar. Sonos also fitted the Era 100 with TruePlay. its digital tuning software. helping the speaker sound better in the real world of your room—not a lab.
For me, that trade-off is part of what makes it a clean entry point into the Sonos ecosystem. It can stand on its own, and when you eventually add more Sonos gear, the whole setup tends to get better.
This deal isn’t huge by deal-site standards, but it’s still meaningful. I rated it a 3.5/5 because it’s just shy of 20% off, and we prefer at least a 20% discount. Still, at $179, the Era 100 is well priced for a three-year-old product. I use this speaker daily, and I’d call it a low-stakes way to dip into Sonos.
Amazon’s Prime Day sale begins on Tuesday, June 23, and ends on Friday, June 26. According to Sonos’s website, the deal will expire on June 26, though it’s possible Amazon might extend it on its website. Deals are subject to sell-out or expiration at any time.
If the discount disappears before you can grab it, it’s not because the speaker stops being useful—it’s just the usual Prime Day reality. Still, for anyone who wants a smart speaker that balances everyday sound with privacy-first behavior, $179 is a hard number to ignore.
