Shia LaBeouf’s story in the public eye has never stayed still. Over more than a decade, his name has moved from red carpets and blockbuster sets to courtrooms, jail bookings, and confrontations that turned into legal cases—and, at times, into vows to get sober.

In June 2014, the pattern that would follow him for years started to crystallize. LaBeouf was arrested at the Broadway show Cabaret after being disruptive and was charged with disorderly conduct. harassment and criminal trespass. He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct while the other charges were dropped. The next month, he sought treatment for alcoholism.

His representative later described the decision as a health-driven move. saying LaBeouf “understands that these recent actions are a symptom of a larger health problem and he has taken the first of many necessary steps towards recovery.” Later that year. LaBeouf was praised for his role as Boyd “Bible” Swan in the movie Fury.

By October 2015, the troubles flared again. LaBeouf was arrested in Austin, Texas, and booked for misdemeanor public intoxication before being released from jail.

Then came the moment he tried to put the chaos in his own words. In September 2016, in a conversation with Variety, LaBeouf said he was nearly one year sober and explained how alcohol and his mental health issues had fed each other.

“Alcohol or any of that s*** will send you haywire. I can’t f*** with none of it. I’ve got to keep my head low,” he said. “I got a Napoleonic complex. I start drinking and I feel smaller than I am, and I get louder than I should. It’s just not for me, dude.”

He also described the pressure around him, telling the outlet that people he respected had urged him not to let it derail his life.

“I had people tell me it was going to [ruin my career],” he said. “People I respected — dudes I wanted to work with — just looked me in the eyes and said, ‘Life’s too short for this s***.’ I’m still earning my way back. I’m happy working.”

In July 2017, LaBeouf’s legal troubles returned in a new form. He was arrested in Savannah, Georgia, for disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and obstruction of justice. He pleaded no contest to the disorderly conduct charge. He was found guilty of obstruction of justice, and the court sentenced him to one year of probation. He was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and attend therapy for anger management and substance abuse.

Behind the scenes, the public record of his life also included shifting relationships—then, later, allegations that escalated far beyond arrests.

In December 2020, LaBeouf faced a major lawsuit brought by his ex-girlfriend FKA twigs. She accused him of “relentless abuse” and sexual battery. LaBeouf denied the claims in a statement to The New York Times. saying “many of these allegations are not true” and that he was committed to taking “accountability” for his past.

“I am not cured of my PTSD and alcoholism,” he continued. “I am committed to doing what I need to do to recover, and I will forever be sorry to the people that I may have harmed along the way.”

In that same period, LaBeouf also issued a separate statement addressing twigs’ allegations. He said, “I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behavior made them feel. I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression. only rationalizations. ” adding: “I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.”.

Then, in July 2025, Us Weekly reported that FKA twigs dropped the suit against LaBeouf.

Less than one year after that development, LaBeouf’s private life again became front-page news: his relationship with wife Mia Goth made headlines after they quietly parted ways.

While those relationship shifts unfolded, the legal pressure didn’t fade completely. In October 2020, LaBeouf was charged with petty theft and battery after allegedly assaulting a man in Los Angeles earlier that year.

By August 2022, another dispute surfaced—this one tied to Hollywood rather than a courtroom. LaBeouf made headlines for an apparent feud with Olivia Wilde after Wilde claimed she had fired him from Don’t Worry Darling. with Harry Styles taking over the role. LaBeouf denied that version of events in a letter to Wilde.

“I am a little confused about the narrative that I was fired,” he claimed in the letter. “You and I both know the reasons for my exit. I quit your film because your actors & I couldn’t find time to rehearse.” He added. “Firing me never took place. Olivia. And while I fully understand the attractiveness of pushing that story because of the current social landscape. the social currency that brings. It is not the truth.”.

In March 2022, LaBeouf confirmed that he and Mia Goth welcomed a daughter, Isabel, earlier that year.

The most recent chapter of the controversy came in early 2026. In February 2026. it was reported that LaBeouf was arrested on two counts of simple battery after an alleged physical altercation in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. Hours later. it was also reported that LaBeouf and Goth had quietly parted ways one year prior. with LaBeouf moving to New Orleans following their split.

In June 2026. LaBeouf pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery charges after the arrest allegations said he struck three men at a New Orleans bar in February. according to The Guardian. The Transformers actor received a sentence of two years probation, rehabilitation for alcohol abuse, sensitivity training and anger management classes.

His attorney, Sarah Chervinsky, told the publication her client was now “looking forward to focusing on family, work and new creative projects” after a “minor bar tussle.”
