Dallas Cowboys cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. knows how it feels to be sidelined—and he also knows what it means to return without feeling 100%.

Last season. Revel got off to a slow start as a rookie. missing the first 10 games because of a knee injury he had suffered in college. When his time finally came to step into the starting lineup late in the season. he described that stretch not as an arrival. but as the beginning of something bigger.

“I am going to be, someday, the best cornerback in the league,” Revel told Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “That’s just how I look at it, and I have the confidence to say it. At the end of the day, I got to work.”

Even with the opportunity to start down the stretch, Revel said he wasn’t fully recovered from that college knee injury. The difference showed up in how he felt on the field.

“I did not feel like myself,” Revel said. “I just had that heart and grit to go out there. If I can still run, I’m going to go play. It’s all about what you can put in for the team. . . . One thing my dad taught me, if you go out there and play, go out there and play. That’s my opportunity to showcase something.”.

Revel’s confidence is grounded in the idea that the NFL stage will eventually let him prove what he believes he can become. He sees the work—and the moments of playing through limitations—as the setup for a larger mission: earning the chance to showcase himself as the best cornerback in the league.

  1. I didn’t realize he missed 10 games. Sounds like he just kinda pushed through it anyway?? Like respect but also why start if you’re not 100%.

  2. Wait so he’s saying he was basically “the opening act” like he already knows he’ll be best corner in the league… which is kinda bold for someone who got benched for a knee. Isn’t that how you end up with rookie hype that dies off by week 6?

  3. “Heart and grit” lol ok. Cowboys always hype their guys like they’re destined or whatever. He didn’t feel like himself but still played, so I guess that means he’s fine now? I’m just saying knee injuries can be sneaky, like one hit and then it’s back to square one.
