SGA Signs With Nike After IG Tease, Converse Era Ends

SGA signs – Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is officially added to Nike’s Basketball signature roster after teasing the move in an Instagram video. Nike confirmed the switch, marking the end of his Converse run that began in 2020 and included a 2024 new endorsement deal and his S
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Instagram post landed like a hint—and Nike has now turned it into a deal.
Nike confirmed Tuesday that it has officially added the Oklahoma City Thunder star as a Signature Swoosh athlete after he teased the move in an Instagram video. In a statement. Nike said. “We are thrilled to welcome Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to the Nike Basketball signature family. ” and added. “Coming after back-to-back MVP seasons. we are excited to build on Shai’s incredible impact with Converse as one of the most creative leaders in the game.”.
For Gilgeous-Alexander, the change closes a long stretch with Converse. He had been with Converse since 2020. The company—owned by Nike—was still his platform when he signed a new endorsement deal with Converse in 2024, and when he was also named creative director of Converse basketball.
That same partnership produced the first piece of his signature line. His first signature shoe, the Shai 001, was unveiled in February 2025.
The shift to Nike comes as his star power only keeps rising. The 27-year-old earned MVP honors during his 2024–25 campaign and helped lead the Thunder to a championship before receiving his second straight MVP award last season.
On the court, the numbers during his 2025–26 campaign reflected a player in full control of the game. Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 31.1 points, 6.6 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 55.3 percent from the field and 38.6 percent from three-point territory.
Even as the season moved into the postseason, his production stayed forceful. The Thunder advanced to the Western Conference Finals this year, and Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 27.6 points per game on 46.3/30.5/89.2 shooting splits across 15 postseason appearances.
Those back-to-back MVP seasons are exactly what Nike pointed to in its announcement. And with the Signature Swoosh deal now official, the question for fans won’t be whether Gilgeous-Alexander is changing brands—it’s what Nike’s basketball lineup will look like with him fully in it.

So Converse is just done then? Rip.
I swear I saw that IG tease and thought it was just merch or something. Nike really said “yep, come on over” lol. Converse been quiet lately.
Wait but Converse is literally owned by Nike right? So is this even like switching? Seems like they just moved him to another department and everyone’s acting like he left the team.
I don’t get how this is a “Converse era ends” thing when they’re like the same family. But maybe they mean he’ll stop wearing Converse on TV and only do Nike ads now. Also that shoe name “Shai 001” is kinda weird like it’s a phone number or something. Either way, people are gonna buy whatever he’s got on.
