How to prepare for power outages in Georgia
Severe storms are hitting the southeast this weekend, so here’s how to prepare for possible power outages.
North Georgia is in for another wet weekend as severe storms and heavy rain are predicted for much of the state.
The Atlanta metro has been going back and forth between squelching heat and major storms. Heat advisories earlier this week warned of heat indexes above 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Here’s what to know going into the weekend.
Multiple rounds of storms to hit Atlanta
According to the National Weather Service, multiple “rounds of storms are possible” on Saturday.
The first storms are expected in the late morning to early afternoon, while a second round could develop later in the day in Alabama and push east.
Northwest Georgia should prepare for damaging winds, while much of North Georgia could see flooding.
“Rounds of showers and storms with high rainfall rates could lead to localized flash flooding,” the National Weather Service says.
Flooding is more likely in “low-lying, poor-drainage and urban areas.”
Some areas still recovering from storms
Storms earlier in the week led to power outages across the northern part of the state and down in the Atlanta metro area. Most of the areas had power restored quickly, but some customers were out of power overnight.
Rains last weekend also brought significant flooding to Hall County around Gainesville and Oakwood, north of Atlanta and to the east of Lake Lanier.
