A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for most of the area. including the metro. through 10 AM. and the storms are expected to increase in coverage Thursday morning. In Weeping Water. Cass County Emergency Management Agency reports power outages and major tree damage—signs that the worst of the impact is already on the ground.
A Tornado Warning was also in effect until 6:15 a.m. for Montgomery, Mills, Fremont, Page, and Pottawattamie counties. That warning has since ended, but the weather isn’t done throwing its weight around. The biggest threat will be large hail. Gusty winds, heavy rain, and even a brief spin-up tornado will also be possible.
By late morning into the early afternoon, the pattern shifts again. As the storms depart, winds will pick up with gusts up to 45 mph possible out of the north.
Temperatures are expected to follow a typical warm-weather climb: highs will peak in the middle of the day in the upper 80s.
