Seth Rogen Says James Franco Friendship Is Over

Seth Rogen says he hasn’t talked to James Franco in a long time, hasn’t worked with him in years, and has no plans to collaborate again—while pointing to public statements as well as the “personal” nuance he says is too private to revisit.

Seth Rogen’s latest update lands with the clarity of a closed door: he hasn’t spoken with James Franco in a long time, he hasn’t worked with him in years, and he has “no plans” to do so again.

The 44-year-old The Studio star, who was friends with the 48-year-old actor for many years and worked with him on several projects, addressed where their relationship stands in a new interview with The New York Times.

“I’m trying to think how much I want to personally share about this,” Rogen said. “I honestly think the nuance of it is too personal for me to get into right now. It is a very personal thing. There’s the public-facing side of it. which I’ve spoken about. and I have the same stance publicly that I’ve had. and I think the proof is in the pudding — I have not worked with him in years.”.

He then drew a boundary around what he’s willing to discuss. “But the personal side of it is just so nuanced. and it involves people that I don’t know if I should be dragging into this. ” Rogen continued. “I don’t know what I would benefit from getting deeply into it. Nothing has changed since the last time I talked about all this. and I haven’t worked with him in a really long time and I have no plans to.”.

When the conversation turned to whether they still talk, Rogen didn’t soften the answer. “I haven’t talked to him in a long time, no.”

Their split has echoed through past comments as well. Back in October 2024, James said their friendship was over. A few months later, Rogen said in an interview that anything about his former friend in the media “wasn’t on my radar.”

Rogen has also previously said he wasn’t planning to work with Franco again. In 2021, he made that point following sexual misconduct allegations involving James.

What Rogen is emphasizing now is not just distance, but permanence—backed by repeated actions. He’s describing years without contact, years without collaboration, and an intention that hasn’t shifted.

  1. Did Seth say it’s cuz of those allegations? Like I feel like that’s the whole thing but the article keeps saying “personal” like ???

  2. I don’t even get what “nuance is too personal” means. Like if nothing changed, then why bring it up now? Also didn’t they already work together after 2021 or am I mixing people up.

  3. So friendship is over because he “hasn’t talked in a long time.” That’s literally everyone after high school. Just seems like PR talk. But yeah “no plans to collaborate again” makes it sound final, like good.
