Series Endings Pile Up in 2026: What’s Next

By the time summer rolls around, a lot of TV timelines will be closing at once. Some series are already in their last chapters. others have had their endings confirmed. and a few are finishing up quietly after renewals that didn’t last. The result: audiences are bracing for goodbyes across streaming, broadcast, cable, and even animation.

Netflix has multiple exits this year and next. Emily in Paris will end after its upcoming sixth season. Netflix confirmed the plan in May 2026. with production on the final season already under way in Greece and filming expected in Monaco and Paris. The Witcher is headed to its own farewell as well—Netflix renewed the series for a fifth and final season that will air in 2026.

In Hulu’s Tell Me Lies, the relationship drama has already closed after three seasons, with Season 3 acting as its final chapter.

On the unscripted side, Queer Eye has officially reached the finish line. The makeover and lifestyle series concluded with Season 10, which premiered on January 21, 2026. Set in Washington. D.C. the final season ends Netflix’s longest-running unscripted series after 10 seasons. nearly 100 life-changing makeovers. and multiple Emmy Awards.

Outer Banks is preparing to put a bow on its teen adventure with its fifth and final season. Netflix announced the renewal and final-season plan in November 2024. Creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke confirmed Season 5 will bring the Pogues’ story to a close. As of December 2025, production had wrapped, but Netflix has not yet announced an official premiere date.

Showtime and Paramount+ are also in the thick of the goodbye. Yellowjackets will conclude with its upcoming fourth season. In October 2025. Showtime and Paramount+ announced Season 4 would serve as the series’ final chapter. with creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson promising a “twisted conclusion.” Production began in 2026. and the series is expected to return later this year. though a premiere date has not been announced.

The Chi is already on its final stretch. The Chicago-set coming-of-age drama is currently airing its eighth and final season. The farewell season premiered on May 22, 2026, on Paramount+ with Showtime, and consists of 10 episodes released weekly. Showtime and Paramount+ confirmed in 2025 that Season 8 would conclude the series. Creator Lena Waithe said the decision was made to end the story on its own terms after eight seasons. The final season is expected to wrap up on July 24, 2026.

Over at HBO Max, Hacks is still moving toward its end. The Emmy-winning comedy starring Jean Smart as Deborah Vance is expected to conclude with its upcoming fifth season in 2027.

Elsewhere, cable and network fare ranges from confirmed finale dates to abrupt endings. PBS News Weekend ended in early 2026 following its final broadcast. The Late Show With Stephen Colbert aired its series finale on May 21. 2026. bringing both Colbert’s tenure and the entire Late Show franchise to a close after a 33-year run that began with David Letterman in 1993. CBS announced the cancellation in July 2025, describing it as a financial decision amid challenges facing late-night television.

CBS also confirmed that The Neighborhood concluded with its seventh and final season. The series finale aired on May 11, 2026 after CBS announced in 2025 that Season 7 would be the show’s last. The long-running comedy wrapped up after more than 130 episodes. though the franchise is expected to continue with a spinoff centered on Marty and Malcolm Butler.

Some shows are ending later in the year, with dates still to be announced. Mayor of Kingstown will conclude after its upcoming Season 5 in 2026, with a premiere date TBA. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will end after its upcoming Season 4 in 2026, with a premiere date TBA as well.

Animation and comedy aren’t escaping the churn either. Smiling Friends officially ended after Season 3. In February 2026. creators Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel said they decided to conclude the series despite Adult Swim renewing it for additional seasons. They cited creative burnout and a desire to end the show on their own terms. The final two episodes aired on April 12, 2026.

Prime Video has already closed its superhero chapter. The Boys officially concluded with its fifth and final season. The farewell season premiered on April 8, 2026, with a two-episode launch, and wrapped up with the series finale on May 20, 2026. Creator Eric Kripke announced in 2024 that Season 5 would be the show’s last. While the flagship series has ended, the franchise will continue through spinoffs and other projects set in The Boys universe.

Not all goodbyes look the same. Good Omens concluded with a feature-length finale rather than a traditional third season. Originally planned as a six-episode final season, the story was condensed into a single 90-minute special that premiered on Prime Video on May 13, 2026.

For viewers tied to long-running dramas. Outlander has already crossed its finish line—its Season 8 premiered on March 6. 2026 and the series concluded after that run. Silo is set to end after its upcoming Season 4 in 2027. Dora, an animated reboot inspired by Dora the Explorer, will conclude after its upcoming Season 4, with a premiere date TBA.

Netflix is also ending a major fantasy run: Avatar: The Last Airbender will end after its upcoming Season 3 in 2026, with a premiere date TBA.

Some series are ending just as the year turns, while others have already wrapped months ago. The Comeback officially concluded with its third and final season. The revival season premiered on March 22. 2026. and ended on May 10. 2026—closing Valerie Cherish’s story more than 20 years after the series first debuted in 2005.

The Way Home is concluding with its fourth and final season. Hallmark announced in November 2025 that Season 4 would be the show’s last chapter, and the final season premiered on April 19, 2026.

On Netflix, The Upshaws will end after its current Season 7. The latest season premiered Jan. 15, 2026 and is the series’ final run.

Hallmark’s daytime drama and Prime’s sci-fi are nearing their conclusions in different ways: The Way Home is already airing its final season; Silo will keep going until its upcoming Season 4 in 2027.

Some cancellations are sudden, even when a series has only recently appeared. Watson is a medical drama series that came out in 2025, and its cancellation was announced weeks before the Season 2 finale. The medical drama reportedly had a decrease in ratings. DMV, a sitcom that aired on CBS in 2025, was canceled after just one season.

There are also one-season departures that leave minimal runway. Brilliant Minds. a medical drama starring Zachary Quinto inspired by the life and work of famed neurologist Oliver Sacks. was officially canceled by NBC in May 2026 after one season. Stumble. another NBC comedy centered around the competitive world of junior college cheerleading. was also canceled after just one season ahead of the 2026–2027 TV lineup.

Netflix ended The Boroughs after just one season in June 2026. The Boroughs was another Duffer Brothers creation that followed a group of people in a New Mexico retirement community uncovering an extraterrestrial secret.

Netflix canceled The Abandons after just one seven-episode season. The western drama series released in 2025 stars Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson.

Prime Video’s Gen V is also shutting down. The series—spinoff of The Boys—was canceled after two seasons. Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg, executive producers of the Vought Cinematic Universe, announced the news in April 2026. Their joint statement said. “While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin. we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon. ” and added. “You’ll see them again.”.

Comedy and reality aren’t spared either. Palm Royale on Apple TV was cancelled after Season 2. Jersey Shore: Family Vacation will conclude with its ninth season, which premiered on May 7, 2026, on MTV.

Meanwhile, some industry shake-ups are happening outside the usual “series finale” format. Access Hollywood. a celebrity news program that first aired in 1996. saw NBCU cancel its first-run syndication division programs. including Access Hollywood. after nearly three decades on the air. Production will run through the summer of 2026.

A few additional series are positioned as future closings with timing still to come. Industry, an HBO finance drama set in London’s competitive investment banking world, will conclude after its upcoming Season 5 in 2027. The Kelly Clarkson Show will end after its current Season 7. The series Smiling Friends is already done, while others like Avatar and Dora are still waiting on TBA premiere dates.

Even with all these endings laid out across platforms. the feeling is the same for fans: the clock is running. and it’s moving faster than anyone expects. Once the final episodes land—whether they’re already streaming or planned for later this year—the only thing left is what viewers will do without these stories in their rotation.
