A hospital worker connected to The London Clinic has been fired after a bid to leak Kate Middleton’s medical records, with the matter reaching the center of a criminal investigation that is now closed.
The Princess of Wales received cancer treatment at The London Clinic in 2024. after being admitted for abdominal surgery in January that year. In connection with that care. a hospital worker was fired for trying to access and disclose her private medical files for financial gain. a breach that was reported by the clinic in March 2024.
The Information Commissioner’s Office investigated the claim and confirmed that it has now concluded its criminal probe. On June 17. the office announced it had “concluded its criminal investigation into the unlawful obtaining and disclosure of medical information to a third party without the consent of the data controller. related to a breach reported by the London Clinic in March 2024.”.
The ICO said the conduct involved “the deliberate misuse of highly sensitive personal information and an offer to disclose it for financial gain,” describing it as “a clear breach of trust.”
It also confirmed that the individual at the center of the case had been fired and received a “formal caution” for their actions. The ICO added that “a caution was the appropriate and proportionate enforcement response.”
The London Clinic said there were no regulatory breaches by the hospital. In a statement released via The Guardian. a spokesperson said: “We all take considerable pride in delivering the very highest standards of care and discretion for every patient at The London Clinic.” They added: “We are pleased our work with the ICO has brought this sad and isolated incident to a conclusion. There were no regulatory breaches by the hospital.”.
Kate’s cancer announcement and return to public view followed after treatment. By March 2024, she revealed her diagnosis to the world after being hospitalized in January 2024 for abdominal surgery. In a video shared to Instagram. she said: “It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family. but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me. for which I am so grateful.”.
Following chemotherapy, Kate said in January 2025 that she was cancer-free, writing in a message shared to X: “It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery.”
Even as she resumed her royal duties, she spoke openly about the realities of her health journey. “As anyone who has experienced this journey will know. it’s not linear. ” she said in a clip posted on Instagram. “There are moments of fear and exhaustion. But also moments of strength, kindness and profound connection,” Kate added.
Her visibility has also been framed as a steady constant since her return. Royal author Catherine Mayer told People: “Kate is the closest they have to a rockstar member these days. and she’s the one everyone wants to see.” She added: “That’s a huge burden for anyone to carry. let alone someone who has had existential battles with her health.”.
For Kate, the stakes have never been only medical. The ICO’s closed criminal investigation underscores how quickly private health information—especially in cases involving deliberate targeting—can become a matter of legal and financial abuse. In this case. the person involved is no longer employed at the clinic. and the ICO says the matter is now off its desk.
Kate Middleton Princess of Wales The London Clinic ICO hospital worker fired medical records leak cancer treatment privacy breach formal caution
So they just fired him and that’s it? Kinda seems weak.
If someone tried to sell her records for money, that’s insane. But I don’t even get why they were able to access them in the first place??
Formal caution?? That sounds like a warning you’d get for like speeding not stealing medical stuff. Also how is this connected to her cancer records like did they hack the clinic systems or what?
Wait… I thought the hospital worker was fired already, but then there’s a criminal investigation and it’s “closed” now. Meanwhile the clinic says no regulatory breaches so who’s lying, the article got it mixed up or the Guardian did or idk.
