Serena Williams returns to Wimbledon doubles with Venus

Serena Williams is headed back to Wimbledon—this time with her sister Venus, not a solitary baseline fight.

Williams will compete in the women’s doubles alongside Venus after receiving a wild card entry into the Championships. which begin on June 29. The pair are six-time Wimbledon doubles champions together and haven’t played doubles at the major in three years of silence—since 2016. when they won their sixth doubles title at The Championships.

For Serena, it will also be a long-awaited return to Wimbledon courts. Her first match at Wimbledon since 2022 is scheduled to come in women’s doubles. a discipline where she has already stacked milestones that few players ever touch. Combined. the Williams sisters have won 14 major doubles titles. and Serena remains the only player in tennis history to have earned a career Golden Slam in both singles and doubles.

Her comeback has already started elsewhere. Williams recently made her competitive return at the HSBC Championship in London, partnering with Victoria Mboko. Their run ended early when Mboko was forced to retire due to injury.

Serena’s next scheduled appearance after Wimbledon is the Berlin Open on Tuesday, where she will team up with Karolina Muchova in the women’s doubles event.

The women’s doubles tournament at Wimbledon is set to begin on Wednesday, July 1, as the 2026 Championships run from Monday, June 29, through Sunday, July 12, at the historic All England Lawn Tennis Club in London. Broadcasting will be handled by ESPN and ESPN2, with streaming available on ESPN+.

The Williams sisters’ Wimbledon history adds weight to what comes next. Together, they have won their six doubles titles in 2000, 2002, 2008, 2009, 2012, and 2016. Two of those championships—2000 and 2002—were earned after entering the tournament as wild cards.

  2. Wait her first match at Wimbledon since 2022 is in doubles, not singles? I feel like people keep calling it a comeback but then it’s not even singles. Also I swear I read somewhere she doesn’t play doubles anymore, so which is it.

  3. Serena and Venus in doubles again and ESPN is covering it… I don’t even watch tennis like that but I’ll probably click the stream. 2016 was forever ago, right? Also wild card titles 2000 and 2002, that’s crazy, like it’s rigged but in a good way. I hope ESPN+ doesn’t mess up the audio again like last time.
