On a platform where privacy settings can feel like a maze, the next payment is now moving toward the people who filed for it.

A second distribution of a cash settlement in a privacy-related class-action lawsuit is approved to begin on June 9. following a court approval on May 6. 2026. The distribution is expected to last about four weeks. This comes after a first round of payments started for eligible Facebook users beginning in September 2025.

The lawsuit seeks payments tied to allegations that users’ private content was shared with thousands of third parties between May 24. 2007. and Dec. 22, 2022. The claim included that data brokers—such as Cambridge Analytica—used the information for political campaigns. Facebook’s parent company, Meta, denied any wrongdoing. The dispute was settled in 2023, with appeals resolved in May 2025.

Who qualifies for the second payment

Eligibility is broad. All Facebook users were eligible for the cash settlement payments except for affiliated companies or Facebook employees.

To receive the money, people had to submit a claim form by Aug. 25, 2023.

If you’re part of the distribution, you’ll be notified by email a few days in advance. If you already received the first check last year, no additional action is required to get this supplemental payment.

How much money is expected

The first checks averaged about $30. For this second payment, the expected amount is roughly between $5 and $7.

The scale of the settlement is large. Of the estimated 250 million Facebook users eligible for the first cash settlement, some 19 million people received payments. About $169 million was paid in legal and administrative fees.

Where the public should look—and what to watch for

With headlines emphasizing “millions of dollars,” fraud attempts are likely to follow. People may see scam emails, texts, and social media pitches promising help with the settlement.

The official settlement website is FacebookUserPrivacySettlement.com, and there is a contact page on the site for questions. All other websites are not authorized by the court.

Settlement administrators will not ask for your Social Security number. They will not seek to confirm your name, address, or payment method. They will not ask for an administrative fee. send a text message. provide an estimate of your settlement payment. or ask you to confirm your identity with a driver’s license or other personal documents.

The timing makes the difference here. A second round is now approved and scheduled to run for about four weeks starting June 9. after a first round began in September 2025. For eligible users, the only real deadline that mattered already passed on Aug. 25, 2023—so this next step is about getting through the noise safely, and knowing where official information actually lives.

  1. Wait does this mean everyone gets money or only people who clicked the right button back then? I never know if I even submitted anything in 2023.

  2. Cambridge Analytica was involved so obviously this is basically like paying hush money, right? $5 to $7 seems insulting tho, like what is that even supposed to cover. Also “email a few days in advance” like that’s comforting… spam emails always come first.

  3. I got the first check last year so I shouldn’t have to do anything? The article says that but it also sounds like I might still need to file again because it’s a “second distribution.” And Facebook privacy settings were always confusing, I thought they were required to protect us… apparently not. Meta denied wrongdoing but here we are.
