Second developer betas for iOS 26.6, macOS 26.6 have arrived

Apple has released the second developer beta builds for iOS 26.6, iPadOS 26.6, watchOS 26.6, tvOS 26.6, visionOS 26.6, and macOS Tahoe 26.6, moving from the first builds that arrived on May 26. The update set includes specific build numbers replacing the earli

For developers who already installed Apple’s first round of iOS 26.6 betas, the second wave is here—and it lands with a very specific kind of urgency: new build numbers to replace the older ones, across nearly the entire current-gen lineup.

Apple has started distributing second developer builds for iOS 26.6, iPadOS 26.6, watchOS 26.6, tvOS 26.6, visionOS 26.6, and macOS Tahoe 26.6. These new developer builds follow the first developer beta builds that arrived on May 26. and they’re arriving in a moment when Apple is also running a separate track for next-generation releases. After the WWDC keynote. Apple introduced developer betas for its 27-generation operating systems. including iOS 27 and macOS 27—so teams now have two beta tracks to juggle instead of one.

Here are the second developer beta build numbers replacing the earlier builds:

iOS 26.6 build 2 is 23G5043d, replacing 23G5028e.

iPadOS 26.6 build 2 is 23G5043d, replacing 23G5028e.

watchOS 26.6 build 2 is 23U5040d, replacing 23U5025e.

visionOS 26.6 build 2 is 23O5743c, replacing 23O5728e.

tvOS 26.6 build 2 is 23L5744d, replacing 23L5729e.

macOS Tahoe 26.6 build 2 is 25G5043d, replacing 25G5028f.

HomePod Software 26.6 build 2 is 23L5744d, replacing 23L5729e.

Apple is continuing to update the 26-generation operating systems as usual, with beta rounds running close to the fall release window of the 27-generation systems.

Alongside the developer betas, Apple has also published two more release candidates:

macOS 15.7.8 RC 2 is 24G809.

macOS 14.8.8 RC 2 is 23J607.

The shape of Apple’s two-track strategy matters for what users can expect from each track. With two developer beta tracks running at once. the next-generation version usually carries the feature changes. while the current-gen track is more muted—often focused on performance and security. That matches what showed up in the first iOS 26.6 beta build: a Contacts feature that notifies users if they reach the maximum of 20. 000 blocked listings. along with a security fix for Apple Maps.

All of this comes with the usual warning that accompanies beta testing. AppleInsider and Apple recommend that users avoid installing beta operating systems or beta software onto “mission-critical” or primary-use hardware due to the potential for issues and data loss. They suggest keeping backups and trying secondary hardware that isn’t essential for daily use.

If you’re looking for a less risky path, Apple usually follows up with a public beta shortly after the developer version. Public betas are typically more battle-hardened than developer builds, with fewer issues.

Apple’s beta testers will be watching closely for changes in the new builds—because even small differences in build behavior can affect everything from app stability to day-to-day device performance. 1. They keep calling it iOS 26.6 like it’s a whole new thing. I swear every beta is just Apple adding the same bug with a new number.

  2. Wait this is for iOS 27 too? Or are we still on 26.6. The article says two beta tracks which sounds like they’re just skipping the final version and going straight to RC’s?? Also that build number stuff is Greek to me.

  3. I don’t even have Tahoe so idk why it’s in the headline. But if HomePod software has the same build as tvOS?? sounds like they copy/paste everything between devices and then act surprised when it breaks. I’m staying on whatever version I had before this.
