Schwarber’s two homers and Harper cycle sink Mets

Schwarber hits – Kyle Schwarber launched two massive home runs in the Phillies’ eight-run third inning, while Bryce Harper completed a first-career cycle. Philadelphia rolled past the New York Mets 15-3 on Saturday night, powered by Schwarber’s 4-for-5 night and Harper’s 4-for

PHILADELPHIA — The night turned into a loud, fast-moving checklist for the Phillies inside one third inning. By the time the dust settled on Philadelphia’s eight-run surge, Kyle Schwarber had already sent the Mets deep twice, and Bryce Harper had started building toward something even rarer.

Schwarber struck first in the third, launching a solo home run off Mets starter Freddy Peralta that carried 456 feet into the second deck in right field. Later in the same inning, he added a three-run shot off Cionel Perez, again aiming for nearly the same spot, this one traveling 457 feet.

The two-homer inning didn’t just lift the Phillies—it placed Schwarber inside a wide historical lane. Schwarber became the 67th player in major league history to hit two home runs in an inning. and the second this season. joining Houston’s Yordan Alvarez. who accomplished the feat on June 12. It was also the fourth time a Phillies player has done it, with Trea Turner (Aug. 19, 2023), Von Hayes (June 11, 1985) and Andy Seminick (June 2, 1949) among the others.

He didn’t stop after the third. Schwarber hit a third home run of the game in the seventh—an additional two-run shot off Tobias Myers. He finished 4 for 5 with six RBIs and scored four runs. capping a night that made the Mets’ pitching choices feel too limited as the damage kept piling up. His total of 28 home runs led the majors at the time of the game.

If Schwarber’s power set the tone, Harper’s hitting completed the statement. Harper became the 11th player in franchise history to hit for the cycle and completed his first career cycle by the fifth inning.

He began with a solo home run in the first, his 16th of the season. In the third, he doubled and scored on an error. After Schwarber’s second home run, Harper singled, keeping the line moving. Then in the fifth. he lined a ball into the gap in left-centre field and motored around to third base for a two-run triple.

Harper’s cycle also came with a Phillies timing marker. He was the first Phillies player to hit for the cycle since Weston Wilson on Aug. 15, 2024. Harper finished 4 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs.

The Phillies closed it out in full, beating the Mets 15-3 on Saturday night—one of those games where the biggest moments arrive early, and once they do, they don’t really let up.

This season has already seen similar milestones. Harper was the second player this season—and this week—to hit for the cycle, joining the Chicago Cubs’ Pete Crow-Armstrong, who accomplished the feat Monday night in a 5-4 win over Colorado.
