Samsung’s update removes video filters—users seek fixes

Samsung removes – Samsung’s newest One UI updates appear to remove video filters from the camera app, leaving some users with no way to apply them while recording. The option still exists in photo mode, but it’s gone in video mode on One UI 8.5 and the One UI 9 beta—prompting w

The camera UI used to make it easy: pick a filter, tap record, and watch the look bake into the video. Now, for some Samsung owners, that familiar option has simply vanished.

After the One UI 8.5 update—and continuing in the One UI 9 beta—video mode no longer shows filters in the camera app. Users say they can still find the filters in photo mode. but when they switch to video. the filter option is gone. Several user reports describe filters being nowhere to be found on some Samsung phones since the One UI 8.5 update.

What’s changed for recording quality is part of the frustration. The filters used to appear within the camera app UI and were available when shooting 1080p videos. With the update, the option appears to have been removed entirely—not just for 4K recording. It’s also reportedly gone for 1080p 30FPS and 1080p 60FPS videos.

The issue isn’t just theoretical. The writer checked a Galaxy S26 Ultra running One UI 9 beta, and filters in video mode were not available in that test.

That leaves the most important question: is this deliberate, or did something break?. Samsung hasn’t confirmed either way. The story notes it’s unclear whether the behavior is intended or a bug. with the writer leaning toward intentional removal because filters still aren’t available in the One UI 9 beta. Samsung has been contacted and will respond before the update is finalized.

For users stuck right now, the workarounds are there—but they come with trade-offs. One suggestion is to apply the filter in photo mode first, then long-press the shutter button to record a video with the filter enabled. Another user calls that approach needlessly complicated.

There’s also the option to apply filters after the fact. Users say filters can still be applied when editing videos in the native gallery app, but the same reports add that this reportedly compresses the videos.

The filter disappearance lands amid other recent One UI complaints. The update has reportedly caused issues for AT&T users with video calls, and there are complaints about the new Quick Panel on the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

If you can’t find the filters while recording videos, the guidance is straightforward: file a report using the Samsung Members app. If it’s a bug, reporting it could push Samsung to fix it. If it’s an intentional removal, the concern is that user pushback could eventually force a reconsideration.

  1. I didn’t even update yet and now I’m scared to. If filters are still there in photo mode, why would they nuke them in video mode… seems like a bug but Samsung always says it’s “features” 🙃

  2. Long-press shutter to record with the filter on? That’s not really a fix lol. Also if it compresses when you edit later, isn’t that the whole point of doing it in-camera? Samsung gonna gaslight us and call it intentional.

  3. This feels like the update is messing with AT&T stuff and then they blame the phone. My cousin said video calls got weird after One UI too, so it’s all connected somehow. If it’s really gone for 1080p 60fps, I’m not updating my S26 Ultra beta thingy. Just make it the old way, done.
