RTÉ moves Saturday Game highlights online after fan fury

RTE have released a statement confirming that The Saturday Game highlights show will be available to watch online this Saturday night. This weekend is one of the busiest of the Championship , with two knife-edge All-Ireland football knockout ties behind the GAA+ paywall on Saturday. Kerry welcome Armagh to Killarney and Mayo host Meath in Castlebar, with Clare also facing Dublin in the All-Ireland hurling quarter-finals that day. The hurling clash is live on RTE at 7pm. The Tailteann Cup semi-finals will be held at

Croke Park that afternoon also. Due to World Cup coverage on top of that, The Saturday Game GAA highlights show will not be shown on television, but instead it will be shown on RTE’s online platforms. That was also the case last weekend, but GAA fans online were unable to access the highlights until after 11pm at least. One fan fumed: “Joanne Cantwell has said twice today that The Saturday Game was on RTE Player last night. It wasn’t. ” Irish Independent Ireland politician Ciaran

Mullooly, a minister of the European Parliament and also a former RTE journalist, questioned the state broadcaster over the delay in making the show available. “Did anyone see the Saturday Game last night? on any Rté platform ? They keep referring to it on The Sunday Game / but I checked the RTÉ player after 9pm last night and couldn’t see any highlights or analysis. Was it on a you tube channel ?” he asked. Another fan online stated at 10.55pm: “No sign of The

Saturday Game on @rteplayer yet as promised by @rtegaa although all highlights are now on YouTube.” In the wake of those queries, RTE have explained that the show will be online on Saturday night, but not by any specified time. “Highlights from this Saturday’s games (Saturday 20 June) are being made available first across RTÉ Player, RTÉ YouTube and the RTÉ News app on Saturday night,” said RTE. “The full Saturday Game programme will follow on RTÉ Player as soon as production and processing are

complete. Match timings, including possible extra time and penalties, can affect the final delivery time.” Click here to sign up to our sport newsletter, bringing you the top stories and biggest headlines from Ireland and beyond
