Rose Byrne stepped onto the red carpet at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall in a shimmery white gown covered in crystal beads. with sparkly black ribbon details running down the sides. The effect was pure spotlight—diamond earrings added another layer of polish as she made her way inside for the 79th Annual Tony Awards tonight.

Her longtime partner, Bobby Cannavale, arrived alongside her, looking just as camera-ready in a white tuxedo jacket, black trousers, and a black bowtie.

Byrne is in the Tonys spotlight for the first time as a nominee this year. She’s up for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for her performance as the unhinged Jane in the 2026 revival of Fallen Angels. The production, a remake of Noël Coward’s 1925 comedy, opened in March at Todd Haimes Theatre and closed today.

Because the limited run drew strong interest, the play was streamed live for subscribers of BroadwayHD on June 5, and it will be available to stream on demand through June 19.

On the nomination list, Byrne faces a tight group: Kelli O’Hara, who co-stars in Fallen Angels; Carrie Coon for Bug; Susannah Flood for Liberation; and Lesley Manville for Oedipus.

The stakes for Byrne don’t start and stop at tonight’s vote. This year has already landed as a rare career milestone—she is now one of only 34 performers in history to earn an Oscar nomination and a Tony nomination in the same calendar year. She earned her first Academy Award nomination this year and also won a Golden Globe for the indie film If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.

  1. That white gown was like… too much in a good way. Honestly I barely care what she’s nominated for.

  2. So she streamed the play June 5 and it was closed today right? That’s wild, like Broadway moves faster than my work schedule. Also Bobby Cannavale in the tux was kinda distracting lol

  3. Wait I thought the Tonys were only for current Broadway shows, not revivals? But it says 2026 revival of Fallen Angels, so does that mean she already won before the vote? Idk I’m confused. The name Fallen Angels makes me think of like 80s music too.

  4. Rose Byrne always looks expensive, like she could sell perfume in that gown. I saw something about If I Had Legs I’d Kick You and now I’m thinking that’s the play?? Probably not but whatever. Also “unhinged Jane” sounds like she’s playing herself, so good for her.
