cameras are – With cameras rolling on The Batman Part II, the sequel is adding fresh muscle and familiar faces—especially Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, complete with the iconic mustache—ahead of its October 1, 2027 theatrical release.

Cameras are officially rolling on The Batman Part II, and the next chapter of Gotham’s grim mythology is starting to take shape in real time. Director Matt Reeves confirmed the production update this past week, bringing momentum after years of development limbo since the 2022 Batman film.

Robert Pattinson is set to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne, with Andy Serkis returning as Alfred Pennyworth. Reeves has also recruited additional stars from the broader superhero world, including Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson. Stan is best known for playing Bucky Barnes in the MCU, while Johansson starred as Natasha Romanoff. Charles Dance has also joined the cast, and the sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.

But the new set update that’s getting the most attention is who Jeffrey Wright is playing. Wright will star in The Batman Part II as Jim Gordon. a role many fans expect will be a step up from his previous detective rank to police commissioner. Wright shared a new image from the set on his personal Instagram yesterday afternoon. confirming that this version of Jim Gordon will once again feature his iconic mustache.

The mustache isn’t a cosmetic throwaway—it’s part of the character’s visual identity across DC history. Reeves, at least for this detail, isn’t steering away from the classic design as Wright heads back into Gotham.

The cast keeps widening beyond the central duo. Reeves has already confirmed the returning Batman setup and brought in names including Sebastian Stan. Scarlett Johansson. and Charles Dance. while the upcoming sequel’s roster is also expected to include other cast members already in place. such as Andy Serkis and Robert Pattinson.

There’s also still uncertainty hanging over the film’s villain chessboard. Matt Reeves has not officially revealed who will play the featured villain in The Batman Part II. Fans and multiple reputable reports have speculated that Sebastian Stan’s Harvey Dent will be the primary antagonist. but that has yet to be confirmed. It’s considered more likely that the sequel will feature multiple antagonists—similar to the first film. which placed Paul Dano’s Riddler at the front of the evil ensemble alongside Colin Farrell’s Penguin and John Turturro’s Carmine Falcone.

Brian Tyree Henry has also been cast in a key role in The Batman Part II. but it hasn’t been disclosed who he will play. As for what Reeves will do with that talent on-screen. the only thing that’s crystal clear right now is the production has restarted. the sets are active. and Jim Gordon—mustache intact—is back in the fold.

  1. So Jeffrey Wright is Jim Gordon again with the mustache… but like are they gonna make him Commissioner already or is it still Detective mode? Also October 2027 feels so far away.

  2. I saw people saying Sebastian Stan is gonna be Harvey Dent?? Like that already feels like MCU casting again. If it’s actually Dent, why would Batman even need multiple villains, just go straight for the one big bad.

  3. Scarlett Johansson in a Batman movie is wild, I thought she was done with superhero stuff. And Andy Serkis as Alfred?? feels like they’re just bringing everyone back from other franchises. Also the mustache being “not cosmetic” like okay cool but what about the actual plot… we still don’t know the villain and they’re already posting set pics??
