Nancy Guthrie Investigators No Closer to Finding Suspect

Former FBI Special Agent Maureen O’Connell said the FBI is close to capturing the masked suspect in Nancy Guthrie’s abduction case. Law enforcement sources say investigators are not, with the search still hinging on evidence they have yet to find.
A masked suspect captured on footage has kept the abduction case of Nancy Guthrie suspended in uncertainty for weeks. On June 24, a former FBI agent stepped onto national television and suggested the breakthrough was near.
Maureen O’Connell, a former FBI Special Agent, appeared on “The Megyn Kelly Show” and said she believes the FBI is close to finding the masked suspect seen in footage taken on her doorstep. O’Connell did not elaborate on why she felt investigators were getting close.
But law enforcement sources contacted by MISRYOUM’s reporting say that confidence doesn’t match what’s happening on the ground. They say O’Connell is overblowing the situation, and they add that it’s not necessarily true that the FBI is “honing in on an individual.”
The sources say investigators are no closer this week than they were two weeks ago. Investigators are still hoping for a key piece of evidence to help solve the case, but they haven’t found it yet.
The pursuit, meanwhile, hasn’t stalled. Investigators are pursuing new avenues to investigate and. in addition. are working with private sector partners to obtain surveillance video and generate other potential leads. The reward being offered—Savannah Guthrie’s along with the FBI’s—is still seen as a reason the public may step forward with information.
Nancy Guthrie has been missing since January 31. In recent weeks, the case has drawn renewed attention after rumors circulated that she was buried in a grave in Mexico. Search parties have looked south of the border, but so far they’ve found nothing.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement that “The investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie remains active and ongoing. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department continues to work closely with the FBI as investigators follow up on leads. review information. and pursue the facts surrounding this case.”.
