Rob Reiner’s Kids Jake, Romy Testified Before Nick Grand Jury

Rob Reiner and wife Michele Reiner’s children Jake and Romy Reiner testified before the grand jury in brother Nick Reiner’s murder case.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office confirmed to People on Wednesday, August 19, that Jake, 35, and Romy, 28, went before the grand jury that indicted Nick, 32, on murder charges. (Rob was also the father of daughter Tracy, 62, whom he adopted during his previous marriage to Penny Marshall.)
Nick was indicted on August 12 for the murders of his parents, nearly eight months after they were found dead in their Brentwood, California, home. In the indictment obtained by Us, Nick is accused of committing first-degree murder on December 14, 2025.
“This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a statement. “The indictment unsealed today also adds a special circumstance allegation that the defendant committed the murders by means of lying in wait. We hope that by having a grand jury return an indictment in this case, it will bring us one step closer to a trial and achieving justice.”
Nick pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder with the special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait after the indictment was unsealed.
Nick, who has faced addiction and mental health struggles through the years, is scheduled to return for a pretrial hearing on September 15 in an L.A. courtroom.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner shared in December 2025 that Rob and Michele died from “multiple sharp force injuries” at ages 78 and 70, respectively. In the wake of Rob and Michele’s deaths, Jake and Romy, the latter of whom found their parents dead, have honored their legacy.
“Nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time,” Jake wrote in an April essay shared to his Substack. “It’s too devastating to comprehend. I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it’s not a dream. This truly is my living nightmare.”
He continued, “I can’t even begin to put myself in my parents’ shoes, but one thing I keep coming back to is how frightened they must have been. They were the last people in the world to deserve what happened to them. They deserved to be loved, they deserved to be respected and above all, they deserved to be appreciated for how much they gave to all three of us and to the world.”
