One of the top Canadians in MLB has a new home, but will get to stay in state.
In return, the Marlins landed infielder Brayden Taylor (Rays’ No. 16-ranked prospect), shortstop Adrian Santana (No. 27) and right-handed pitcher Jacob Kisting (No. 26), per Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
Hicks, 25, is slashing .282/.363/.432 with 14 home runs and 62 RBIs over 101 games this season.
The Toronto native has split time between first base, catcher and designated hitter in 2026.
Hicks is in just his second season in the majors after making his big-league debut with the Marlins at the beginning of the 2025 season. In 119 games last season, he had only six home runs and a .247 batting average.
He suited up for Canada at the World Baseball Classic, but went without a hit in four plate appearances in his one game for the side.
Taylor, 24, has suited up at third base, second base and shortstop this season. In 88 games at double-A Montgomery, he has a .284 batting average with 17 home runs and a .897 OPS.
Santana, a 21-year-old former first-round pick, has split time between high-A and rookie-A this season. He has a .311 batting average with a .768 OPS, three home runs and 23 stolen bases in 54 games between the two levels this year.
Kisting, 23, has excelled at high-A Bowling Green in his second year since turning professional. The former NCAA hurler has a 1.99 ERA and 0.872 WHIP in 18 appearances (16 starts) this season.
