Reece Weaver retires from DCC, eyes Broadway next

Reece Weaver still remembers the exact moment her days with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders ended—at least the moment fans saw.
In the show’s Season 3 finale of “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders” (streaming now on Netflix). the 24-year-old stunned viewers when she announced she was retiring. But away from the cameras. Weaver said the hardest part wasn’t the public pressure. or even the injuries fans watched her deal with on-screen.
The thing she can’t wait to stop? A much smaller, frustrating battle: torn tights.
“The one thing that I’m not going to miss is when you rip your tights and have to change in the middle of a game to go put on new tights,” Weaver told MISRYOUM. “When you’re sweating and when you’re trying to put them on as fast as possible.”
She described it as constant.
“This is literally me: I have ripped my tights before. I’m trying to change them. trying to be quick. and then you rip them while you’re trying to put them on. so it’s just this constant battle. ” she added. “I’m very excited and looking forward to not having to worry about the stress of ripping tights.”.
Beyond the wardrobe frustrations, Weaver said her final decision carried something heavier—relief mixed with a bittersweet kind of finality.
“This decision has been prayerfully considered, and I’m at such peace with it, but it is kind of hard,” she explained. “Things have just been moving so fast lately, I haven’t been able to process it all. I think it’ll take the first game and thanking the team and all these things to sink in.”
She said she leaned into gratitude for what she’d experienced during her three years as a DCC favorite, even as the schedule never gave her much room to breathe.
Fans may be familiar with the pressures—nonstop commitments, intense training camps, high expectations, social media criticism, and limited time off—but Weaver framed those challenges as part of a life she’d chosen. And when it came to whether injuries pushed her out, she was clear.
“Did Reece Weaver retire because of her ankle injury?” fans asked after the season aired. In Season 3, viewers watched Weaver deal with hip pain and a high ankle sprain.
But she insists those injuries weren’t the reason.
“There wasn’t any injury that influenced me to make this decision,” she said. “It was more on the fact that I was just so full of gratitude. and my cup was filled to the brim. I went into this year being so grateful for the past two years. and I was excited for what year 3 was going to bring. but when it came down to it. I just looked back and [was] filled with so much gratitude for everything that I was experiencing. I had so much peace with moving into the next phase of my life.”.
Still, Weaver didn’t pretend the physical reality didn’t follow her.
She said the injuries created a mental effect during her final weeks.
“Once you get injured. you kind of have a fear of doing it again. and so I think I had that in the back of my mind. ” she said. “It’s honestly just as much of a physical game as it is a mental. and so I had my mind set on finishing the last two games. and that was my goal. When I put my mind to something, I am determined to do it.”.
“This job definitely takes a physical toll,” she added. “I feel like it wasn’t necessarily an indicator of why I am moving into the next season of my life, but I will say it definitely takes a toll on you.”
Weaver also pointed to the support system that helped her process the decision before she ever announced it publicly.
Before retiring, she leaned on her husband of two years, Will Allman.
“I could go on and on and on and talk about all the sacrifices Will has made for me to live out my dream. ” she said. “but he gets to see what people don’t see. which is the toll. the weight. the pressures. and he never uses that to sway my opinion. … He’s been so supportive, and ultimately he’s helped guide me and helped me process.”.
Now that she’ll have more time, she said she’s looking forward to something she never really got to have: the early phase of newlywed life.
Weaver said she’s excited for a “newlywed period” with Allman, made possible by the end of the hectic DCC schedule.
“I am really excited to say yes to the things that we had to say no to in season. ” she said. “There are so many incredible opportunities that come up in season and post-season. but I’m excited for both of us to make decisions together as we navigate what’s next for not just me. but for our marriage. and for our lives. and for our future families.”.
Her plans aren’t limited to resting. She said she is currently writing a book and that she wants to explore other styles of dance, with her sights set on Broadway or “Dancing with the Stars” one day.
But for now, she’s letting the next step stay open-ended.
“I feel like I’m in this season of my life of not knowing what [my next step] is,” Weaver said. “I just feel so at peace. I was supposed to take a leap of faith, and I don’t really know where that’s gonna land me, but I’m really excited to be able to step into a season that’s a little unfamiliar.”

Rip tights in the middle of a game sounds miserable lol.
Wait is this real life or just the show? I saw a clip and thought she quit cuz of injuries but now it’s gratitude??
Broadway next like… for real? I mean cheerleaders always have a lot of pressure but torn tights is what made her retire?? Seems kinda random, not gonna lie. Also the article says no injuries but then mentions mental stuff so which is it lol
Torn tights sounds like the most Dallas thing ever. Like if you can’t keep the costume together then what are we even doing. I guess the show makes it seem dramatic but I’m glad she’s “at peace” or whatever. Netflix loves these tearjerker finales… still waiting for them to announce who replaces her.
