Red Sox stymied again, Mariners finish 3-1

Mariners beat – Dominic Canzone homered and Logan Gilbert limited the Red Sox to one run as Seattle beat Boston 3-1 on Sunday, preventing Boston from completing a series sweep.
SEATTLE — The Red Sox came into Sunday chasing a sweep, but by the time the Mariners’ bats found their rhythm, the gap between what Boston needed and what it got looked wider than a single inning.
Dominic Canzone delivered the swing that mattered. He homered opposite field to left off Payton Tolle in the second inning, snapping the game open at 1-0 in Seattle. It was Canzone’s 12th homer of the season.
Boston answered in the third. Nate Eaton hit his first homer of the season into the upper deck in left field to tie the game 1-1.
From there, Seattle kept landing the sharper punches. Cole Young drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth with a key RBI single. Weston Wilson followed with a two-out single to left field. stole second base. and scored when Young’s ground ball got through the infield into center. pushing the Mariners to a 2-1 lead.
Canzone added to the margin in the sixth. His fielder’s choice groundout scored Julio Rodríguez, making it 3-1.
Logan Gilbert did the rest. He allowed one run on three hits across 6 1/3 innings, striking out eight and walking two. The Red Sox managed a couple of base knocks off him, including an infield single by Ceddanne Rafaela in the first and a single by Caleb Durbin in the fifth.
Boston’s bullpen kept the score from getting worse for stretches. Gabe Speier, Eduard Bazardo, and Andrés Muñoz combined for 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, with Muñoz closing the ninth for his 13th save and pitching a shutout.
Tolle took the loss after giving up three runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out two and walked two.
With Sunday’s result, Boston’s pitching path moves to Monday: LHP Jake Bennett (1-3, 4.79 ERA) is set to start at Denver against RHP Ryan Feltner (2-2, 5.05 ERA).
Seattle turns to Tuesday, when RHP George Kirby (5-7, 4.10 ERA) is scheduled to start at Pittsburgh against RHP Mitch Keller (5-4, 5.25 ERA).
