Raptors’ Collin Murray-Boyles makes all-rookie second team

Collin Murray-Boyles has been named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team after averaging 8.5 points, five rebounds and 1.9 assists for the Toronto Raptors.
Collin Murray-Boyles didn’t have to wait long to prove his value in Toronto. On Wednesday, the Raptors forward was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team, a recognition that caps a first season where he stepped in for a team that needed bodies and size.
Murray-Boyles, 20, arrived as Toronto’s first-round pick (ninth overall) a year ago. From the start, he helped fill the gap created by injuries that limited centre Jakob Poeltl to just 46 games. In 57 appearances this season, Murray-Boyles averaged 8.5 points, five rebounds and 1.9 assists, including 22 starts. He shot 58 per cent from the field.
The all-rookie teams are chosen by a panel of media members, and position isn’t part of the voting. That means Murray-Boyles’ spot comes from performance alone—exactly the kind of contribution that tends to matter most when a rookie is asked to make an immediate impact.
Cooper Flagg of the Dallas Mavericks won Rookie of the Year and headlines the All-Rookie First Team. He’s joined there by Charlotte Hornets forward Kon Knueppel and Philadelphia 76ers guard VJ Edgecombe. with the full first team also featuring Cedric Coward of the Memphis Grizzlies and Dylan Harper of the San Antonio Spurs.
The second team includes Ace Bailey of the Utah Jazz, Jeremiah Fears of the New Orleans Pelicans, Murray-Boyles, Derik Queen of the New Orleans Pelicans, and Maxime Raynaud of the Sacramento Kings.
