For Hulu subscribers, the shift starts right away: Disney is making it easier to follow Hulu content without jumping between apps, and it’s doing it by pulling more of Hulu’s identity into Disney+.
Starting today, Hulu subscribers can link their Hulu profiles to Disney+. Once linked, Disney says their watch history, watchlist, and recommendations will carry over into Disney+. That means the Disney+ app won’t just feel like a different storefront—it will reflect what users were already watching on Hulu.
Disney is also removing a common barrier. Hulu subscribers can stream all Hulu content through the Disney+ app even if they don’t have a Disney+ account. The company says this is enabled via a unified MyDisney login.
And for people who customize their profiles, Disney is adding a new look. Hulu avatars are now available for profiles in the Disney+ app, joining the existing Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars-themed avatars.
There’s another promise built into the updates: once profiles are linked, titles watched in the Hulu app will continue syncing to the Disney+ app going forward.
Not long after these rollouts, Disney plans to test a Hulu-inspired feature inside Disney+. The company says Disney+ will soon start testing a “Live Guide. ” designed as a hub for finding live content at any given time. Disney says it will include streams such as “ABC News Live and Disney+ Playtime for all Disney+ users and ESPN networks for entitled ESPN Unlimited subscribers.”.
Disney also made clear what will stay where—at least for now. Additional Hulu features, including Live TV and add-ons, are still available in the Hulu app and will be coming to Disney+ at a later date.
After the announcements. Disney told Variety that there are “no current plans to sunset the Hulu app.” Still. with the Disney+ app absorbing more Hulu functionality today—profiles. content access without a Disney+ account. and ongoing syncing—questions about what happens next are starting to feel less hypothetical.
The sequencing is straightforward: Disney is folding Hulu’s everyday experience into Disney+. one feature at a time. while reserving the biggest remaining pieces for later. And as that integration continues. the only mystery is how long it will be before “separate apps” becomes something people only remember from the past.
