Scottie Scheffler 5 straight birdies was ‘a dream start’ at St. Jude
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler tied the course record and opened a three-shot lead thanks in part to his five straight birdies to open his round.

Scheffler carded 11 birdies on Friday, Aug. 14, during Round 2 of the PGA Tour’s FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee.
Scheffler’s scintillating round tied the course record of nine-under-par 61 and placed the favorite to win this year’s FedEx Cup Playoffs alone atop the tournament’s leaderboard heading into the weekend.
Scheffler started his round with five consecutive birdies before finally settling for par on the par-four sixth hole. A pair of bogeys on Holes 8 and 12 were the only blemishes on a scorecard that otherwise looked like a line of dots waiting to be gobbled up by Pac-Man.
You might ask, was Scheffler’s round his best ever? It’s debatable, as he’s shot higher scores in higher-stakes rounds, including during the finals of his four major championship wins.
