Raiders sign Benito Jones for defensive depth

Las Vegas adds veteran defensive tackle Benito Jones as the Raiders prepare for OTAs, waiving Brodric Martin to make room.

A veteran interior defender is set to add immediate competition for the Las Vegas Raiders, with Benito Jones joining the team ahead of OTAs.

The Raiders signed Jones on Wednesday. continuing a push to strengthen the defensive line from the inside as their offseason program approaches next week.. The move comes with a clear roster-management component: Las Vegas waived defensive tackle Brodric Martin with an injury designation to clear a spot.

Martin’s path into the Raiders organization was relatively recent.. He appeared in one game for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025 before later being claimed by Las Vegas in December.. The waiver move with an injury designation leaves Jones as the latest addition to the mix around the team’s nose tackle plans.

Jones. 28. enters the Raiders after time with multiple AFC and NFC programs. beginning his NFL career as an undrafted free agent from the University of Mississippi in 2020 with the Miami Dolphins.. His early years were marked by stints on and off Miami’s active roster and practice squad. a common route for players developing depth and role clarity.

Detroit became his next key stop.. Jones was claimed by the Lions before the 2022 season and spent two seasons in Detroit before returning to the Dolphins on one-year deals in both 2024 and 2025.. Across his career. he has logged 71 appearances between Miami and Detroit. with production that includes 83 tackles. 10 tackles for loss. 3.5 sacks. and three passes defended.

In terms of experience and availability. Jones has started 38 games over the past three seasons. giving the Raiders not only a physical presence at defensive tackle. but also a player accustomed to the tempo of regular-season snaps.. This past season, he appeared in 14 games for Miami, recording 15 tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack.

At Las Vegas, Jones is expected to slot into a deep and competitive interior mix at nose tackle.. That group includes JJ Pegues. along with rookies Brandon Cleveland and Gary Smith III. plus International Player Pathway participant Laki Tasi.. For a defense that relies on consistent interior play. the Raiders’ offseason rotation will be shaped by how those talents handle the demands of the position early in OTAs.

The signing also provides insurance and mentorship behind projected starter Adam Butler.. With new head coach Klint Kubiak leading the club into this offseason phase. the Raiders appear focused on building defensive habits and depth simultaneously. particularly along the interior where matches at the line of scrimmage can dictate the flow of an entire defense.

  1. Benito Jones at nose tackle? Isn’t that like the same spot as Adam Butler like… I’m confused lol. Hope this doesn’t mess up the line.

  2. I don’t get why they’re bringing in more guys instead of just playing who they have. Martin was just there and now he’s gone. Also OTAs don’t even count for anything so why get worked up now.

  3. Raiders always ‘sign for depth’ then somehow it’s the same injury problems every year. Benito Jones was on the Dolphins and Lions right? Sounds like the same recycle system. Meanwhile they got rookies and I’m like good luck on OTAs…
