Raghava Lawrence to announce June 11 amid Tiruchi bypoll buzz

Chennai, June 7 (IANS) Actor, director and choreographer Raghava Lawrence has announced that he will make an important decision about his future public life on June 11, triggering intense speculation in Tamil Nadu’s political circles over a possible electoral debut. The announcement comes against the backdrop of growing reports that Lawrence could be fielded by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the upcoming Trichy East Assembly by-election. The by-election became necessary after TVK founder and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay resigned from the
Trichy East Assembly seat following his historic victory in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Vijay had contested and won from both Trichy East and Perambur constituencies, but later chose to retain Perambur, vacating the Trichy East seat and paving the way for a bypoll. In recent weeks, political observers and sections of the media have speculated that Lawrence, a popular film personality with a strong fan following and a long record of charitable activities, could emerge as TVK’s candidate for the prestigious constituency. The
rumours gained momentum as TVK continues to expand its political footprint across the state under Vijay’s leadership. Responding to the reports, Lawrence issued a statement on his X account, acknowledging that widespread speculation was circulating regarding his possible candidature in the Trichy East by-election. He said several journalists and media organisations had contacted him seeking clarification and requesting interviews on the matter. “As the speculation continues to grow, I felt it was necessary to provide some clarity,” Lawrence said. The actor revealed that he is
currently busy completing the shooting of his upcoming film ‘Benz’, a project he expects to finish by June 10. He added that he would make a significant announcement about his life the following day. “With my mother’s blessings, I will announce an important decision concerning my life at 9.30 a.m. on June 11,” Lawrence stated. While he stopped short of confirming any political plans, his carefully worded message has only intensified curiosity about whether he is preparing to enter active politics through TVK. Political analysts
believe the Trichy East by-election will be closely watched, not only because it was previously represented by Chief Minister Vijay, but also because it could offer the first indication of how TVK intends to build its next generation of political leadership. Lawrence’s June 11 announcement is now expected to provide answers to the questions surrounding his political future.

So he’s running for office like tomorrow? Crazy.
I don’t get it, the article says he’s still shooting a movie but also “important decision” like that automatically means politics? Media always hypes this stuff. Also 9:30 a.m. seems oddly specific lol.
Wait C. Joseph Vijay resigned but then won both seats and kept one? Sounds like a stunt to set up this actor guy. If TVK wants leadership why not pick someone local instead of another celebrity. Not saying he’s bad, just feels like the whole thing is manufactured for clicks.
“With my mother’s blessings” like okay but what about the actual people in Trichy East? I swear these celebrity candidates never talk about real issues, they just do charitable stuff and everyone forgets the rest. Also I saw somewhere else that Lawrence already joined TVK, so now I’m confused why he needs to announce anything. June 11 at 9:30 and then bam, government? Sure.
