King Charles, Princess Kate attend Trooping the Colour ceremony
The royal family, including King Charles and Princess Kate, attended the Trooping the Colour ceremony in London to mark the king’s birthday.
Princess Kate may be the future queen but she’s also a mama who just loves to chat.
The mother-of-three was spotted keeping husband Prince William and their children waiting over the weekend as the family of five left Scotland’s Commonwealth Games.
In a video gaining widespread attention on social media, William is seen getting into the family car along with Prince George, 13, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8, while Kate is seen taking the time to finish her conversation with British sporting legend Sir Chris Hoy.
“My mother was the same way. This was always us leaving church on Sunday…dad and kids in the car and mom chatting,” wrote one social media user on Instagram. “You can imagine what the kids must be saying- c’mon mum!” wrote another.
Many were entertained at the idea of Prince William, who is next in line to the British throne waiting patiently for his wife to finish chatting. Even as the future monarch, William is “just a husband waiting in the car,” one Instagram user joked.
A member of the Wales family’s security team is seen standing next to the vehicle and holding the door ajar for Kate as she wraps up her conversation with Hoy, who has terminal prostate cancer.
Kate is in remission for cancer, though the type of cancer she was diagnosed with has not been shared publicly.
In June, the princess scaled the three highest peaks in Great Britain in 24 hours to raise money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, an endeavor she said provided her with a “chance to explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back.”
On social media, some pointed out that Kate may have taken extra time when speaking to Hoy because they had both experienced the brutality of the disease first hand, pointing to the princess as a source of compassion.
“Once you’ve been touched by cancer you will never rush a conversation with someone who is going through it,” read one of hundreds of comments on the video. Other comments drew comparisons between Kate and the late Princess Diana, who was known for her empathetic nature and ability to connect with others.
The Wales family stepped out at Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games on Saturday, Aug. 1. Together they watched athletes compete, including their youngest son Prince Louis who was seen beaming in the stands wearing a bucket hat.
It has been a hectic yet “special” summer for the Wales family, who have attended many events in recent months.
Last month, Prince George celebrated his 13th birthday and is gearing up to start a new school in September. William and Kate stepped out at Royal Ascot and at the Wimbledon Championships, though Prince Louis was absent from the tennis tournament.
In June, the family took center stage during the ceremony held to mark the official birthday of King Charles III.
