Prince Harry and Meghan have accepted an invitation from King Charles III to stay at royal residences, at least partly, during their return to the United Kingdom from July 7 to July 11—details remain limited as questions linger about how their security will be

Prince Harry and Meghan arrived in Sydney Harbor to greet fans at the Sydney Opera House as they prepared for an Invictus Australia boat tour, but the next stage of their trip is already being shaped by a different set of expectations at home.

The Duke, 41, and Duchess of Sussex, 44, have accepted an invitation from King Charles III to stay at a royal residence, at least partly, during their upcoming visit to England. The couple’s representative confirmed the arrangement in a news release shared with a U.S. outlet.

No further details were provided about which specific residences they will use, including whether their accommodations will be spread across multiple royal properties or supplemented with private lodging.

The visit is set for July 7 to July 11, and the couple is bringing their two children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5. However, they will not make any public appearances during the trip.

Whether the schedule includes meetings with King Charles III or other members of the royal family has not been confirmed. Requests for comment were directed to Buckingham Palace.

Four years after leaving, the return is their first as a couple to the United Kingdom since 2019, and the first time Harry and Meghan have been together there since September 2022, when they attended the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II—an event that marked the end of the monarch’s 70-year reign.

The timing brings familiar tension back into focus: security and access.

Harry has previously said he could not bring Meghan and their children back sooner because of concerns about his family’s safety after he stepped back from taxpayer-funded security when he stepped back from royal duties in 2020. In May 2025, he lost an appeal in a U.K. court over the level of security he and his family are entitled to while in Britain. leaving uncertainty about what arrangements the Sussexes will have during their upcoming visit.

In the same news release. Sussex representatives said the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures said a risk management board has not been conducted for the couple’s visit. They said the board should have been completed despite six months of notice. and despite “assurances” that it would be conducted by March. Their statement cited that an annual RMB should be carried out at a minimum. saying the Duke’s last RMB was nearly seven years ago.

By February 2021. the couple formally surrendered their royal patronages and honorary military appointments after a review of their departure agreement was completed. Harry gave up his patronage of the Rugby Football Union and the Rugby Football League. while Meghan surrendered her patronage of the Royal National Theatre. which her grandmother-in-law. Queen Elizabeth II. had handed down.

Since “Megxit” — the term widely used for the 2020 decision to step back as senior working royals, a play on Brexit — Harry and Meghan have built business ventures. They launched their joint media company, Archewell Productions, and Meghan’s lifestyle brand, As Ever.

The accommodation decision for this trip now lands against a backdrop that is hard to ignore: an invitation to royal residences, paired with ongoing questions over how the couple’s protection will be handled and whether planning timelines were met.
