Sean Strickland made it into the UFC Freedom 250 fan fest long enough to draw a crowd—then police led him out before the night’s fights even began.

The UFC middleweight entered the festival at a 52-acre park across the street from the White House, an event that pulled in tens of thousands of fans. By about 7 p.m., the atmosphere shifted as a surge of fans approached him, according to the United States Park Police.

The fights were set to start around 9 p.m., but Strickland’s stay didn’t last that long. The U.S. Park Police Public Information Office said in a statement that his presence “drew significant attention from attendees. resulting in disorder. ” and that personnel from the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Park Police. and other assisting agencies evacuated him “safely from the area” due to concerns for his safety and the safety of event patrons.

A pool photograph showed police leading Strickland out of the national park. A video posted on social media captured him reacting to what was happening, with Strickland saying, “I’m pretty sure I didn’t break any law. But I might be going to jail.”

Strickland’s removal landed amid a dispute over whether he should have been there at all. He repeatedly said he had been banned from UFC Freedom 250. UFC CEO Dana White disputed that and implied Strickland simply had not been invited. It was unclear how he got into the fan festival. where tickets were required—just as it became clear how he got out.
