Over 400 runners power Wexford Bus Piercestown 5K fundraiser

Piercestown National School was the place to be on Sunday as the local community gathered to support their school and take part in the second Wexford Bus Piercestown NS 5K fundraiser. Building on the success of last year’s event, the Parents’ Association and organising committee, led by Stephanie Quigley, Odhrán Murphy and Diarmuid Kinsella, once again put their shoulders to the wheel to get this event across the line. “A huge thank you must go to the event’s sponsors, particularly our main sponsor, Wexford Bus,

whose support ensured the committee had the resources to make the event enjoyable, successful and inclusive for all participants,” principal Laura Walsh said. “We are also extremely grateful to our other generous sponsors, Pettitt’s SuperValu, Keane Auctioneers, Clio, Barbelle Health, Eoin Reynolds Cars, Devereux Hygiene Ltd, The Farmers Kitchen, PowHer Strength, Londis Piercestown, GJM Contracts, Midlands Tyres, Kelly’s Bakery and Amanda Whitmore. Without their support, this event simply would not have been possible.” Special thanks were also extended to the many volunteers from the local

community whose efforts helped ensure a safe and enjoyable event for everyone involved. “With over 400 participants registered online before race day, there was a real sense of excitement from the outset. For the younger runners, the promise of a medal and doughnut at the finish line was more than enough motivation, while the introduction of event t-shirts added to the occasion and proudly showcased the support of our sponsors. “More experienced runners were eager to compete for the cash prizes on offer, adding a

competitive edge to the day. And to compliment the date of Father’s Day, and add an extra incentive, there was a bonus prize for the first Piercestown Dad across the finish line! Once the starting whistle sounded, the roads around Piercestown were filled with runners and walkers of all ages and abilities, with the atmosphere described as being “electric” from start to finish. With Murphy’s Barn serving excellent coffee and music keeping spirits high throughout the day, the event brought together families, friends, neighbours and

supporters in a wonderful celebration of community spirit. Ms Walsh said that the Piercestown NS 5K was a fitting finale to Active Week 2026 and a hugely appreciated fundraiser for the school and that the staff, Board of Management, Parents’ Association and school community are sincerely grateful to everyone who participated, volunteered, sponsored or came along to cheer on the runners.
