Foden’s current contract is due to run out next summer, but Misryoum understands he is expected to commit to a four-year agreement, with the possibility of an extra year beyond that. The move comes after a period in which he has slipped down the pecking order as his form has dipped.
In this context, City’s decision reads less like a quick fix and more like a statement of intent. When a club ties a homegrown star down, it often signals confidence that the next phase can still belong to him.
Misryoum reports that City have been keen to keep Foden, an academy product who has been with the club since he was in their under-nine setup. Over his time in senior football, he has gone on to make hundreds of appearances for the first team, adding goals and major honours along the way.
At 25, Foden has already collected a stack of trophies, including multiple Premier League titles, League Cups, FA Cups and the 2023 Champions League.. Still, the recent stretch has been tougher. He has faced a sharp drop in production, and according to Misryoum, he has not scored in his last 25 appearances for City.
City’s wider summer picture is also changing. Misryoum notes that the club is set to lose captain Bernardo Silva and defender John Stones, but the contract renewal for Foden fits a broader effort to keep established players in place.
With that in mind, Foden is expected to join a group of players already committed to the club into the 2030s, including Erling Haaland and Gianluigi Donnarumma, alongside several others. That mix suggests City are aiming to build stability across multiple positions rather than reshuffle entirely.
