PGA Championship tickets hit $199—here’s the real payoff

A first-time visitor at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania found the PGA Championship surprisingly accessible—from $199 general admission on the first championship day to free food and cocktails in a T-Mobile fan suite at the 15th green.

On the drive to Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, it was easy to treat the PGA Championship like a novelty—something you try once, then move on from. But by the time the day settled in, the event had done the one thing it rarely gets credit for: it made golf feel reachable.

The tournament was being held annually at Aronimink Golf Club, and the experience started before the first tee shot. Unlike the Masters, getting into the PGA Championship didn’t require winning a lottery or knowing the right people. Tickets went on sale to the public, and championship rounds sold out fast. Still, a general admission ticket for last Thursday—the first day of the championship—was available at about $199.

If $199 sounded steep, the first surprise was that practice-round passes weren’t. At $79, they included food and non-alcoholic drinks, and they still offered the chance to watch Tour pros prepare up close.

That price tag—especially when paired with what came next—made the day feel less like an expensive outing and more like a sport finally inviting newcomers in.

  1. I don’t get why people complain, $199 is like cheaper than a normal concert at this point. Also if they’re giving food and drinks that’s basically a buffet day. Guess golf is finally not for rich snobs.

  2. Wait practice passes are $79 but they said $199 for admission, so like… does that mean you can just buy the $79 and still see everything? Or is the $199 only for the “real” stuff like after 5pm or whatever. I’m confused but $79 with food sounds way better

  3. T-Mobile fan suite giving cocktails on the 15th green is wild, but I still feel like golf events are mostly for people who already know the course. Like yeah it says “reachable” but then “sold out fast” so not really reachable unless you got lucky. Also $199 for a single day is still a lot to me, inflation is a thing… idk.
