Perez Hilton admitted he was ‘in a spiral’ weeks before distressing livestream: ‘I fell off the wagon’

Perez Hilton previously spoke openly about feeling “in a bit of a spiral” in the weeks leading up to the TikTok livestream that resulted in his hospitalization. He attributed this to the stress of relocating with his family, which disrupted the routines that helped him stay grounded.

In a YouTube vlog posted on June 29, Hilton reflected on life after moving from Las Vegas to his hometown of Miami with his three children: Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8.

“I went to the gym this morning for the first time in weeks. I also went to church today for the first time in weeks. And I also read my Bible today for the first time in weeks,” Hilton said.

“I was in a bit of a spiral because I was overwhelmed with our move to Miami and I didn’t do these things that I know are good for me,” he added.

Hilton said resuming these routines helped him feel more centered. “I felt really good leaving the gym this morning. And I felt even better leaving church,” he said. Although he felt “a little bit anxious,” he ultimately felt “more soothed and inspired and centered than anything.”

He also shared his perspective from that time. “There is a direct correlation between the effort you put in at the gym and the effort that you put in with your faith,” Hilton said. “Reading the Bible, going to church, that’s work. And the harder you work at things, the more results and rewards you get.”

Hilton recalled a message from the church service that resonated with him. The pastor told the congregation, “It’s easy to have faith at the beginning of your journey. It’s like a honeymoon period, but it’s harder after you’ve been on that walk.” Hilton said this reinforced “why it is important to nourish our soul with the word and with community.”

The vlog gained new significance after viewers contacted authorities during an August 4 TikTok livestream that appeared to show acts of self-harm. Hilton was subsequently hospitalized.

According to US Weekly, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed that deputies responded after receiving multiple emergency calls from concerned viewers. Officials stated that the Crisis Response Unit and licensed mental health professionals were also dispatched to support Hilton’s family.

On August 5, Hilton’s family shared their first public update on his website, expressing gratitude to those who reached out and noting they were still awaiting further information.

“Our family wants to once again thank everyone who has reached out with prayers, kind messages, and support for Perez. Your compassionate humanity during this profoundly heartbreaking time has meant more than words can express,” the statement read.

The family also confirmed there had been an encouraging development. “We have also been able to confirm that Perez is able to communicate, which has given our family hope,” the statement added.
