Donacarney songwriter Peadar Connolly releases breakup-inspired single

A Donacarney-based singer-songwriter whose debut release received praise from critics and airplay on national radio is set to release his second single later this month. Peadar Connolly will release his new single, The Feeling is Over, on May 28. Described as a lush cinematic pop ballad, the track was written and produced alongside musician and producer Mitchell Keely, who is also Connolly’s former partner. In an unusual twist, Connolly said the breakup song itself became a symbol of what endured after the relationship ended. Connolly,
who is originally from the Drogheda area and now lives in Donacarney, has been steadily building recognition for his work both in Ireland and internationally. An ethnomusicologist as well as a songwriter and producer, his music has featured on RTÉ Lyric FM, BBC Radio 3, RTCG and RTSH, while his production projects have also received recognition from Songlines magazine. He was also involved as a songwriter and performer in the runner-up entry for RTÉ Eurosong 2024. Connolly’s debut single, Codhlaím go Suan, was previously described
by Hot Press as a “breathtaking debut” and received coverage across Europe. Earlier this month, he also performed at Night Moves, with the show receiving coverage in the Drogheda Independent. Influenced by artists including Hozier, Bon Iver, Sampha and Sufjan Stevens, Connolly’s work blends emotional songwriting with cinematic production and cross-cultural influences. The Feeling is Over is being released today, May 28, across streaming platforms.
