When Paul Pelosi’s brown convertible hit a legally parked car on a road outside Yountville in Northern California. the moment didn’t end with a call for help. A witness saw the collision. dialed 911. and deputies later found Pelosi roughly a quarter of a mile away with damage to the front of his vehicle.
The Napa County Sheriff’s Office said the parked car suffered “major” damage. Deputies reported that Pelosi, 86, briefly stopped after the crash and then drove away. He was not arrested, and no injuries were reported.
Authorities said the crash happened Friday in Yountville, a town in the heart of wine country. Pelosi was driving his brown convertible when he struck the parked car on the side of the road. the statement said. After the collision. he reportedly told officers he knew he had hit something but was not sure when or what caused the damage.
The sheriff’s office said Pelosi did not have any alcohol in his system. Even so, it referred him to the California Department of Motor Vehicles for a process to determine whether he may continue to drive—something officials said is common for older drivers.
Because no one was hurt, the sheriff’s office recommended a misdemeanor charge for fleeing the scene of an accident.
For Nancy Pelosi’s family, the legal questions add pressure to an already heavy backdrop. Pelosi pleaded guilty in 2022 to misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence in Napa County. The court also ordered Pelosi to pay about $5. 000 in victim restitution for medical bills and lost wages. along with nearly $2. 000 in fines.
