Paul Pelosi faces possible hit-and-run charge in Napa County crash

Paul Pelosi, 86, was identified by the Napa County Sheriff’s Office as the driver in a Friday crash in Yountville that damaged a parked, unoccupied vehicle. A witness alleged Pelosi briefly stopped and then drove away. He was not arrested, alcohol was not dete

On Friday afternoon in Yountville, Napa County, Paul Pelosi was driving a brown convertible when his car struck an unoccupied parked vehicle on the 6700 block of Yount Street, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash left the parked car with “major rear damage. ” and officials said its front tire was “forced onto the curb.” A witness reported the collision to law enforcement and alleged Pelosi was driving north. “briefly stopped then drove away. ” the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release issued Saturday.

Deputies made contact with Pelosi shortly after the crash after noticing a California Highway Patrol vehicle parked behind the brown convertible. which was partially blocking a roadway in Yountville. The Sheriff’s Office said Pelosi’s vehicle also had “significant” damage to its front right. and that the damage was consistent with a hit-and-run.

Officials said Pelosi allegedly acknowledged “hitting something,” but told investigators he was unsure about what he hit, and continued driving. He stopped driving only after his car broke down.

The Sheriff’s Office said Pelosi did not have alcohol in his system at the time of testing. ruling out the possibility that he was driving under the influence. He was not taken into custody. and the case will be directed to the Napa County district attorney’s office for review and possible prosecution.

A representative for Nancy Pelosi did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Saturday. Nancy and Paul Pelosi have been married since 1963.

Paul Pelosi has also faced legal driving issues before. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor driving under the influence charges stemming from a car crash he caused in May in Yountville, California. Authorities said he was sentenced to five days in jail and three years of probation.

A California Highway Patrol vehicle’s presence behind Pelosi’s car. the alleged brief stop and drive-away. and the Sheriff’s Office conclusion that the damage matched a hit-and-run have now put the matter in the hands of prosecutors. where the question will be whether the facts support a charge and what consequences follow.

  1. It says he wasn’t arrested and no alcohol… so was it really a hit-and-run or just damage and confusion? I’m lost. Also the parked car was unoccupied so how bad could it be?

  2. He “acknowledged hitting something” but didn’t know what? That sounds like the definition of hit-and-run though. Like if you don’t know what you hit, you still leave… idk maybe CHP being there means they already had eyes on him or something.

  3. This whole thing feels weird bc they’re saying no alcohol, no custody, just “review and possible prosecution.” Meanwhile in my town people get slammed for way less. Also the article mentions the old DUI 2022 like that’s totally the same thing? Hit something once, prove it was the tire on the curb, then what… he gets punished again? Seems like politics will decide it, not the facts.
